It’s hot in Sac town; upwards of 110 degrees for the past few days and a few more triple digit days coming soon.
You can say it’s a heatwave.
Luckily, I bought a small but large pool from Costco that has not only taught me a few things about pool management, but is also keeping me cooled off.
My podcast room is about 10 degrees hotter than outside.
Therefore, Im sweaty, just to put out quality content for you.
I was thinking of investing in an AC unit, but that is noisy and costs a little bit of money, along with modifications of my window frame.
I prefer to spend money on beer stuff, or maybe music stuff. I dont really need much with music except maybe a few lessons and new bass strings.
As for beer stuff, it seems a satisfying abyss of upgrading pleasure. One day I won’t buy as much beer stuff, but it’s fun and keeps my mind engaged. What can I say?
I can say “stop buying stuff,” but nah.
I did make one big soft promise on this podcast: to get you a guest appearance. Or get me one.
I have been doing a solo podcast for over a year and am realizing I don’t like repeating myself or coming up with weekly content on my own every week. Therefore, I want to get a guest, whether rotating or permanent.
I am open, but I am working on getting someone next week and hopefully it actually pans out this time.
Thanks for sticking with me. I hope you gain something from my podcast and blogs. Your listens really mean something to me.

  • Podcast: June 14th is flag day, my birthday
Today, is Flag Day, aka my birthday.
I don’t remember what this podcast is about. Sure, I could have re listened to it and summarized it. But, I didn’t.
It’s late and I feel that I need to just put this podcast out on the airwaves you know, release it into the universe.
I hope you learn something, or gain something from this podcast. If you don’t, I’m sorry; it’s a free podcast that was made organically for you to consume at your will. If you don’t like it, you probably don’t like a lot of things. Or maybe this podcast is just horrible.
But typically, I try not to put out crappy product, yet it can happen. But if you consider your self a cool, positive person; or in the works of becoming that, you will enjoy this podcast.
Oh by the way, today is my birthday, aka Flag Day.

There is so much to making beer at home and commercially.
Science, practice, will, drive, labor and some luck over the years will get you on your way.
I am in the market for a yeast microscope and slide. That is a whole beast in itself.
Also, I have performed my first co2 transfer post fermentation. yay! I think it worked out well.
And there is also some business talk wrapped around the podcast. Do you like business or want to know about it? Maybe you just want to hear about making beer…
Either or, this podcast may help you out!

  • Podcast: How to land a first and maybe second date
Since I recorded this podcast a week ago, and miles and miles of life have zipped in between this and where I am now (writing), I will just simplify this for you.
If you are into the paid websites, this podcast may help you. I didn’t do tinder or the free stuff. I paid for my membership and maximized my potential with online and in person interactions.
I immersed myself into finding the “right one.” Guess what? I found her! So this podcast is passing along my experiences as “single and looking, but not looking for a cheap thrill” type of deal. Yes, most of the first dates were very cheap (in price, I might add), but the investment took time, trial and error to see any fruition from my efforts.
Keep at it! If you want to “find the one” it will happen. Give it time and effort if life hasn’t handed it to you yet.

  • Podcast: Gaining confidence
There are many ways to gain confidence in life. Especially as adults. Yes, we have a lot of stuff going on; work, money, family, bills, maintenance of cars, etc.
But if you want to get better and gain confidence in your passion, desire(s), hobbies, life, etc, you will have to DO stuff to move FORWARD.
    Yes, let’s move forward.
Practice, engage your brain, make it happen. I use my own methods of gaining confidence by practicing as much as possibly; daily! You can to if you do not already. Good luck in your endeavors.

  • Podcast/Article: yeast starters for homebrew beginners
    YEAST STARTER FOR BEGINNERS:
So after a few yeast starter batches, I decided it would be good to share this information with you if you wanted to know how to grow your own yeast.
Yeast is an expensive part of any brewers batch; but it is much more efficient to minimize your costs by doing a yeast starter, and further to grow your yeast BEFORE your brew, or harvest your yeast.

This post will cover just the yeast starter.
*I had a video all set up and somehow lost it. I apologize for that!
    A YEAST STARTER
This is a simple process where you can calculate how much yeast you use and how much yeast you will need to grow. Yeast is around $8 a vial with nearly 100 billion cells per vial; contingent upon the package date.
Older yeast (usually starting a month and up) will continue to lose viability, and hence lose cell count.
Generally speaking, any new homebrewer will typically use 1 vial of yeast (around 100 billion cells) per 5 gallon batch.
If the beer is supposed to be high in alcohol content (8% or higher) then 2 vials (around 200 billion cells) may be needed to meet the gravity expectations.
Over pitching yeast (putting more yeast than needed) is generally understood as better than over pitching; although the “right amount” of yeast is the most beneficial.
A yeast starter will multiply your yeast as yeast is asexual and will re populate if you feed it the right sugars and oxygen.
Since I write for newer audiences, I will just try to keep things very simple.
There are debatable metrics on how much DME (dry malt extract) to water ratios. I have heard, read, and tried a few things in regards to starters.
Usually a cup of DME mixed with around 3000 ML of water is what I have found to work the best.
    WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

    * DME (try to match it with the color of your beer, i.e. light DME for a lighter beer), if you can buy 1-3 lbs it would be the best (3 lbs is cheaper than 1 lb).
    * A vial / slap pack / can of yeast. (I never tried this with dry yeast, but you should hydrate the dry yeast before if you try!)
    * An erlenmeyer flask or a mason jar
    * A medium pot (bigger than the one you cook top ramen with)
    * Sanitizer mixed with water in a spray bottle.
    * Aluminum foil.

  • Chipping the golf ball better
CHIPPING THE GOLF BALL AROUND THE GREEN
My chipping has vastly improved over time.  It wasn’t an easy thing for me to learn.
I had a very low success rate back in the days, before I deliberately started practicing specific improvement in my backyard.
I used to top the ball or chunk it about half the time, forcing me to consider using my putter more than I wanted to.
That’s not too fun, losing multiple strokes throughout a golf round after a great drive and iron shot!
Seriously, I was probably hitting maybe half, give or take, chip shots well. And this wasn’t with consistency; like one good, two bad, two good, one bad, etc.
Eventually, things started to make sense. I went through much trial and error AFTER my deliberate improvement.
I started watching many videos on how to chip better. I busted out the backyard boogie nearly every day until I got it dialed in.
What happened? I started moving up in my consistency and accuracy.
    WHAT DID I DO?
Luckily, I have a decent sized backyard. I committed to get this part of my game down. I was tired of the bad chip shots that could easily save a few strokes to my game.
I mean, I have been playing for years, what gives!
After much research and such, I came up with simply keep my arms completely stiff,  while I moved my club back and forth through my stroke.
I also focused on hitting the “sweet spot” on my club, which is the basically the middle of the club face.
My first few days of chipping in my backyard consisted of many line drives, super short chip, and the occasional good shot. But my % was still cruddy.
My fence also suffered a few forceful hits, luckily no boards were broken and luckily no neighbors came to my house asking for compensation.
My left top forearm became very sore from keeping my arms stiff on these chips, but I felt progress coming.
Finally after a couple of weeks, something happened.
I was chipping MOST of my chips the right distance with the right “pop up”.
However, I was still not fully accurate on where the ball was landing.
So I kept at it and after a few weeks and next thing I knew I was chipping with aim and distance MOST of the time.
    THE TIPS
Keep those arms stiff for shorter chip shots, usually under 50 yards. *It may seem weird to do this and may or may not be the way the pros do it, but it worked (and works) for me.
Develop a feel for your distance.
Avoid breaking your wrists or bending your arms.
    Keep your head down.
Aim to hit the ball with the “sweet spot” of the club face.
Choose the right wedge; know your clubs. I like 56 degree wedges, or sand wedges.
    THE VIDEO
Below is a video of my chipping now, it is much better and way more consistent then before. I can now “easily” correct any errors in chipping a lot easier.
Like I mentioned, it takes practice to get just this aspect of your game down. You will have to work with different grass lengths, grass types, etc. You will also have to consider how far the ball will roll and such.
Needless to say, this video will describe my article lesson. Good luck!

In this episode I talk about a couple of home remedies I use consistently that appear to help me out. I also talk about my garden progress and give an update on my video making journey.
I never thought of myself even close to being a hippie type, but my woman has me all about it, along with a few more miles put on the good old meat suit.
My garden is almost 2 years in the making, but finally I have a decently set up area for vegetable hoarding. I hope the hundreds of $ I dropped into making this garden yields me some homegrown abundance in years to come.
Knowing me, once I get everything dialed in (including my garden) I will end up moving. Either that or expand my home another story. Because god knows I will not expand into my backyard. That would intrude on 1) my garden and 2) my man cave. Hell nah. I ll skyscraper this crib before sprawling it wider and longer.
Auto insurance blog coming soon (just an FYI insurance is kind of a tag word that will get me way better advertisers on my site). But I really have an auto insurance blog coming soon.
Here is the video, and way below at the bottom is the audio.
