Today Stefanie Antunes, Doula educator shared her knowledge about Post Partum depression and her experience with this mood disorder as she called it " Perinatal Depression", It can actually affect more than 15% of mothers.
As a Doula, Personal Trainer and health Advocate I am here to support my friends, my family and everyone around me. I love to share solutions to help to diminish the depression and avoid prescription antidepressants.
Natural ways to heal depression are:
Exercise lightly at home with an instructional video or with a personal trainer Eat a well-balanced food low in processed sugars EPA/DHA supplementation + Vitamin D Food that promotes serotonin like raspberries Dance with your favourite music 2x a day for 2 songs Take a 10 mins walk under the sun. Breath with closed eyes for 10 mins. Delegate activities with your partner or family member. Get one night a week to relax and do something that makes feel " you" Wear a sexy dress that makes you feel confident and sexy again.

Nav has worked extensively with pre and postnatal patients with pelvic floor dysfunction while collaborating with urologists and obstetrician/gynaecologists.
.
Nav believes every woman should be empowered to take care of their own health and therefore she focusses on a lot of education with her clients, as well as in the community. She works with her patients to create a treatment plan with specific goals to help improve their quality of life. She values compassion, trust, and kindness in her patient care. Her goal is to have women's health to be equally represented in physiotherapy school as well as in clinics around Canada, which is currently not the case.
.
When she isn't treating, Nav keeps active by doing yoga, spin, and planning her next mountain hiking adventure.
We went go over the following today: 1) What is prolapse, how childbirth can cause it, symptoms 2) Avoiding prolapse: using breath versus holding breath with lifting, exercise, movement; having good posture; building strength in the muscles of the core - can be done with a women's personal trainer and pelvic physiotherapist -kegels help when done correctly -kegels can be combined with exercises such as floor bridges, lunges, squats, body weight exercises as this is more functional than just doing them sitting around

Questions on kegels:
1) Are kegels for everyone? Should everyone be doing kegels?
2) What is the best way to perform kegels? and when to do them if someone is pregnant or afterwards
3) What are kegels? (a lot of people don't even know!)
We will chat again about prolapse.
