Christmas has always been a special time of year for my sister and I as a kid. Our grandma's birthday was Christmas Eve and for as long as i can remember, we have gotten together Christmas Eve morning for breakfast, gifts and family.

I remember when we were little it was at my grandparents' house. Then as I got older, we outgrew their house and moved to my aunt's house.

Eventually, we moved it to a cousins house and then to a hall. It was always something that was special to our family.

Today, let's talk about some the traditions we have with our kids and some of the Christmas traditions we had as a kid. Who is up for a little nostalgia?

Our holiday candies are here and currently brittle is on the shop.

Our holiday trays consist of a variety of cookies and holiday candies. We will have some available the week of Thanksgiving for last minute grab and go for the holiday.

I am so excited because we have a variety muffin order going out. I know what you are thinking… why be excited about muffins? Because we have some muffin options that you just can’t get anywhere else including our amazing pistachio muffin.

I will not be going live next week before Thanksgiving, but I will be back the following week.

How to make our turkey cookies:

American buttercream recipe

Ingredients:

🦃 Sugar cookie
🍁 Icing
🦃 Food coloring- yellow
🍁 Candy corns
🦃 Piping bags/zip lock bags
🍁 Piping tip
🦃 Edible eyes

Start by icing your sugar cookie. Be careful because sugar cookies are delicate. Take about 7 candy corn (depending on the size of your cookie) and put them around the top with the point of the candy corn facing down like a feather.

Add two edible eyes. Then pipe on a yellow beak and two yellow legs and you have yourself a simple and easy Thanksgiving cookie to share with the kiddos.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. How crazy is that?

Baking at the holidays is one of our biggest memories as kids, and my sister work hard to build those memories with our kids. Below we have a recipe for our sugar cookies that we make with the kids along with two different icings.

One is a pumpkin American buttercream and the other is a regular American buttercream. Both are easy for kids of all ages.

This week's baking tips are about making your cookies better for the holidays.

🎄Use room temp butter
🎄Cream butter and sugar together for at least 10 min
🎄Add eggs one at a time and let fully incorporate (Remember to scrape in between)
🎄Biggest Mistake: Overmixing. Once you add the other ingredients, only mix until the flour goes away. The more you mix; the more gluten is created; the tougher your cookie will be
🎄Put your chips in with all other ingredients instead of at the end.
