In this activity, an expert in head and neck carcinoma discusses unmet therapeutic needs in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck and the potential impact of inhibitor of apoptosis proteins on treatment. Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to: Recognize the unmet therapeutic needs of patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (LA SCCHN); Describe the rationale for targeting inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) in the development of novel therapies for LA SCCHN; and Review the clinical impact of emerging IAP antagonists in the treatment of LA SCCHN, based on the preliminary efficacy and safety data.
