Reece Green had his fair share of baseball glory, having pitched for Winthrop University before going to Australia and the Czech Republic for stints as a professional ballplayer. But it wasn't until he dressed up as Randy Johnson for Halloween, with his girlfriend Alex accompanying him as the bird Johnson famously struck with a baseball, that Green - a Seattle stand-up comic - got true traction throughout the baseball world. Bradfo sits down with Reece to get the story behind the story when it comes to the much-talked about costume, and Green's fascinating baseball journey that led him to this iconic moment.
It's the commercial you keep seeing over and over during postseason baseball games - the one where Ken Griffey Jr. and his wife have to deal with a next-door neighbor that just happens to be an umpire. Well, the umpire in that ad just happens to be former big league ump Jim Joyce, who once threw 19-year-old Griffey out of a game when both were in the big leagues. Joyce joined Bradfo to explain the behind-the-scenes story of the commercial. To listen to the entire podcast with Joyce, click here.
A lot of baseball players are going to be making tough decisions in the next couple of months with free agency ready to kick in five days after the conclusion of the World Series. It's why it is a good time to hear from someone who went through the process last offseason, Rangers pitcher Andrew Heaney, who inked a free agent deal with Texas. Heaney joins Bradfo to reflect on why he picked the Rangers over the Red Sox and what it's like to go through the free agent process. We're morphing the World Series and upcoming offseason with this Baseball Isn't Boring on the Go.
Producer Evan hops on the pod to give his list of the Top 5 Free Agents who've made themselves the most money with their performances this postseason and it's safe to say that the DBacks, Phillies and Rangers are going to have to pony up to keep these guys on their rosters
Mike Hazen has already come on the Baseball Isn't Boring podcast this postseason. And now he is back. Why? Mainly because he loves the conversation, but also due to his superstitions. Hazen joins Bradfo once again to talk through how he goes about these days while living the life of a very, very superstitious general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. There is also a very spicy "retirement" wager made on the podcast. To top things off, Bradfo catches up with Arizona closer Paul Sewald to talk about his journey while answering one of our favorite questions: Has he thought what he would do if he got that final out of the baseball season?
The World Series brings out all the stars ... and the stars' opinions. A perfect example was the presence of Pedro Martinez at Game 2 of Fall Classic. The Hall of Famer took a few minutes to express his strong desire to put Shohei Ohtani in the same uniform Martinez won a world championship in -- that of the Red Sox. Pedro talks why Ohtani is a perfect fit for Boston and why the game - and the Red Sox - need the free agent so much.
What a Game 1 of the World Series! And, of course, the two names that jump off the page when it comes to identifying the heroes of the Rangers' win were Corey Seager - who tied the game in the ninth inning - and Adolis Garcia, the owner of the game-winning homer. The man who brought both players to Texas, former Rangers President of Baseball Operations Jon Daniels, joined Bradfo to discuss the path that led Seager and Garcia to their current home. To listen to the entire Daniels podcast, click here.
Step into the dugout with Liam Skiffington & legendary MLB coach John McLaren as he shares the inside scoop on his illustrious career that spans four decades, from his time alongside iconic managers Don Zimmer and Lou Pinella to his exciting new role as the manager of the Dubai Wolves in Baseball United's league.
Bradfo joins Jones and Mego with Arcand on WEEI to discuss if Craig Breslow was a good hire for the Red Sox live from outside AT&T Stadium
In among all the players being interviewed at media availability for the World Series, perhaps the most insightful was Arizona outfielder Tommy Pham. Bradfo joined Pham as he talked about why some teams (the Dodgers) consistently win, what he has learned from his stops with other organizations, how hard it is to be traded and the controversy around statements he made about the Mets' position players' preparation.
