There is no week in the calendar year that better exemplifies exactly how exciting baseball can be without a single ball being thrown or bat being swung. It is Winter Meetings Week. Bradfo is joined by BIB free agent correspondent Ed Hand to discuss what might be awaiting the legions of Hot Stove fanatics in the coming days. Shortstops. Starting pitchers. Aaron Judge. It's all on the table. So before getting on the plane for San Diego, Bradfo breaks it all down with our BIB free agent go-to-guy.
The MLB Winter Meetings are next week, which means we are on the verge of some big free agent signings. And oftentimes when those signings take place during the Meetings that means there will be a press conference showcasing a team's prized new acquisition. Rich Hill was that guy when the Dodgers invited him to announce his three-year deal at the Winter Meetings, so he can offer a unique perspective not many have. It's a a good way ease into perhaps the biggest few days of the Hot Stove season.
While rumors and news fly around the baseball world heading into December, Bradfo, Coop and Courtney Finnicum took it upon themselves to undertake an important task - uncovering what is exactly the best baseball movie of all-time. The trio execute a four-round draft to help determine the best of the best. It's baseball movie science.
ESPN's Buster Olney joined Bradfo to discuss the current state of the MLB Hot Stove, including what he believes is the biggest domino of them all - Aaron Judge. Are the Yankees willing to let Judge go, and if they do what will be their plan to replace him. Olney surfaces some interesting names. It is your best way to start preparing for next week's Winter Meetings.
In case there wasn't already enough excitement in Houston regarding the world champs, now they have Jose Abreu. It's a good time to resurface a look at the importance of Abreu to a team, which is exactly what Bradfo did with Matt Spiegel of 670 the Score and Courtney Finnicum. If there was any doubt that the Astros were getting a good one, the testimonies of Matt and Courtney should put those to rest.
When it comes to delivering the message of why baseball is not boring, why baseball is fun, nobody does it better than former Tampa Bay Ray postseason hero and current major league outfielder Brett Phillips. Phillips joins Bradfo and Coop to talk about all the excellence that comes with the game, what's wrong with this day and age of big league players, how to immediately grow the game by 50 percent, and the merits of ranch dressing. Listening to Phillip will make you want to run out onto the nearest diamond and start tossing the ball around.
Bradfo is joined by Baseball Isn't Boring free agent correspondent Ed Hand to dive into the biggest debate still sitting in the Hot Stove season: Who is the best shortstop on the open market - Carlos Correa, Trea Turner or Xander Bogaerts. The guys not only state their cases for each player, but predict landing spots. Bradfo and Ed also talk about how this offseason might the craziest ever for Twitter rumors and reports without anything really happening. It's a great way to start your week.
We saw it all over social media, Aaron Judge showing up at the San Francisco airport to start his few days of being wooed by the San Francisco Giants. But exactly how impactful is such a recruiting trip for a free agent like Judge? It's a question Bradfo dives into with Joe Kelly during the pair's recent conversation, with the pitcher offering some somewhat surprising perspective on the process. Bradfo talks with Jon Lester, who experienced the recruiting dynamic after 2014 with the Red Sox, Cubs and Giants. Everyone likes their name up on the Jumbotron, but for these multi-million dollar athletes, is it really worth it?
With families gathering for Thanksgiving dinner, the Baseball Isn't Boring podcast wanted to remind us all of how entertaining such a dynamic can be. After a quick dose of book promotion, the two dive into Joe's outside-the-box thinking when it comes Thanksgiving, and holiday decorations, along with why it's a waste of time to invite players for free agent recruiting trips. In the world of podcasts, it's a holiday miracle.
