There aren't many more powerful voices when it comes to articulating the merits of baseball than Dayton Moore. For 16 years he served as the chief decision-maker for the Kansas City Royals, winning a World Series along the way. But it is his perspective of what the game is and where the game is going that is so important. Moore joins Bradfo for an in-depth conversation regarding his lot in life, bringing us inside to the particulars that involved his unexpected exit from KC, while offering insight into how he views his future. The former GM takes a deep dive into how running a baseball organization has changed, and what exactly should be prioritized. You won't be able to look at baseball the same way after hearing this podcast.
One of the more intriguing names on the free agent market is Jose Abreu. It's why Bradfo solicited the expertise of 670 The Score's Matt Spiegel and longtime White Sox follower Courtney Finnicum to take a deep dive into what should make Abreu such an attractive option for teams looking for a first baseman/DH/clubhouse leader. You aren't going to find a better primer for Abreu's market as he heads into free agency. There is also a few other debates the trio gets the bottom of, such as which player would be best to start a franchise with and which is more pressure-packed, giving a wedding speech or playing music at a wedding.
With the Hot Stove ready to kick into high gear, Lucy Burdge of Bet QL joins Bradfo to sift through all the props regarding where the top names will end up signing. Carlos Correa. Trea Turner. Aaron Judge. Jacob deGrom. Xander Bogaerts. The odds for their landing spots are out, and Lucy helps steer you in the right direction. There is also a very special prop at the end involving Judge that can land you a Baseball Isn't Boring t-shirt.
We want to make you money. Mattress Mack kinds of money. So what we did at Baseball Isn't Boring is bring on Andrew Lang of TalkNats.com to make a strikingly good case to bet on the Nationals to win the 2023 World Series. Yes, those Nationals - the ones who, along with the Pirates and A's, are the biggest longshots to win it all next season. After listening to Bradfo and Lang, you are going to at least start thinking about these Nats in a different way.
The offseason can be a long few months, especially if you are living the life of a free agent in Major League Baseball. In the latest 'Players Only' podcast with Rich Hill, the pitcher is joined by fellow free agent Kevin Plawecki to discuss what that dynamic is like for those waiting to find out where their next home might be. Bradfo, Rich Hill and Kevin Plawecki all got together for a spirited baseball discussion that dealt with the issues facing youth baseball and what it is like waiting around during free agency. (To listen to the entire episode, click here.) In this clip, Plawecki addresses the Phillies using 'Dancing On Our Own' as their theme song. The tune was, of course, the theme song of the 2021 Red Sox thanks to Plawecki. It needed to be addressed, and that's exactly what Plawecki did.
Bradfo jumps on 670 The Score in Chicago with Matt Spiegel and Gabe Ramirez to talk dissect the shortstop free agent market, his recent conversation with Cubs manager David Ross, and, of course, Joe Kelly. When it comes to a launching pad for the Chicago baseball fan's obsession with the offseason, it's a good one.
In the first Players Only episode - which will see free agent pitcher Rich Hill bring on a current or former major leaguer to talk about the great game of baseball - free agent catcher Kevin Plawecki joins. Hill and Plawecki tackle the topic of how kids aren't necessarily being shown the right path to excel in the game thanks to misguided parents and coaches, how anxious an offseason can be as a free agent, and the story behind the story when it came to the Phillies using 'Dancing On My Own' just one year after Plawecki brought it to the Red Sox. It's fantastic perspective from two insightful current players.
A time-honored tradition came around once again at Wednesday's GM Meetings, with super agent Scott Boras spending more than 45 minutes answering questions from the media. But, as anyone who has experienced the annual press conference can attest, this isn't your run-of-the-mill get-together. Boras is armed with the kind of quips and comparisons that is almost better than any information he can offer on his stable of free agents. Bradfo does you the service of breaking out Boras' best lines and offering analysis on each one. It is baseball and it is definitely not boring.
Other than Aaron Judge, there isn't a more high-profile free agent hitting this year's market than starting pitcher Jacob deGrom. But would he be worth an investment from your team? Tim Britton, who covers the Mets for The Athletic, joins Bradfo to explain in detail why deGrom is a pitcher - despite his age and injury history - who would be just what the doctor ordered for those clubs looking for top of the rotation. It's a reality check for those trying to get a handle on the free agent pitching market.
