Sarah Franklin has been immersed in agriculture her entire life, growing up on her family’s farm before earning an agricultural economics degree from Texas A&M University. A graduate of the TALL XIV cohort, Sarah is passionate about giving back to her community and the agriculture industry through her involvement with organizations including the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and her local stock show.

Recently elected to the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Board of Directors, Sarah continues to be a strong advocate for agriculture and rural communities. In this episode, Sarah shares her career journey, her new leadership role, and what it looks like to balance a demanding career with motherhood as a working mom to two young children.

Sami Jo Smith grew up as a pastor’s daughter and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, when she was just five years old. The first time she saw Miss Frontier ride by, she knew she wanted to be part of that tradition someday.

Although she spent much of her youth as a competitive swimmer, Sami Jo was continually drawn to the western industry. With the support of her family and a local horse-loving family who took her under their wing, she found her way into the horse world and never looked back.

In 2012, Sami Jo achieved her childhood dream of becoming Miss Frontier, an experience she describes as both an incredible honor and a defining chapter in her life. Her first internship with the College National Finals laid the foundation for a career in event production, rodeo and a career in empowerment. Today, she is changing the sport of rodeo with Premier Women’s Rodeo, where she is helping elevate opportunities for women in rodeo and shaping the future of the sport.
