I never had the understanding of what I was capable of when I was young. I did what every kid did: Play with your friends, hang out with your friends, make sure you have good times with your friends. Do you see a theme here? Yes, friends are a great part of my life but I never went after what I wanted in life.
My mom tried to push me to do art in my college years but I wasn't driven and focused enough to know what to do next. I needed a mentor. Someone who could tell me what to do and how to do it and why the sense of urgency was necessary. I needed to hear this message everyday. It needed to be pounded into thin thick skull of mine at a young age.
I remember when my buddy’s dad told me and my friend something powerful when we were in our late 20s. He said, “if you guys dont stop messing around, you'll be 35 years old and married with two kids.” Sure enough, he was 100% right.
So here’s my message to the young Thundercats of this generation. I suggest you save this podcast if you’re between the ages of 18-24. I suggest you listen to this over and over and over again because I am the 40 year old version of you if you don’t get your act together right now. And trust me, 20 years goes by in a New York minute. Nine hours ago I was 30 years old with my first child.
