  • 593: Merry Berry Picnic: a mindful story and guided relaxation
Rob and Rebel Raccoon get some help from Bertie Bat when they realize they didn't think a plan through carefully.
    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 4:25
    Merry Berry Picnic Excerpt:

It was a sunny afternoon on Ahway Island. From time to time, a refreshing breeze filtered through the trees of the Ahway Island Forest, and a bright green leaf or two gently drifted down to the grassy forest floor below. Birds sang happily in the trees, enjoying the beautiful weather.

Far below the birds in the trees, Rob Raccoon joyfully hopped along the forest floor. Like the birds, he too was enjoying the beautiful weather.  It was a perfect day to visit his friend Rebel Raccoon.

  • 230. The Light Parade: a relaxing story and meditation for kids
Frankie Firetruck prepares for the holiday light parade, excited to show off his lights and sirens. He wonders what the kids would like most to see.
Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “The Light Parade” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!
    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 10:10

    The Light Parade Excerpt:
The garage door rolled up and Frankie the fire truck gazed outside.  The world felt warm in the reddish orange glow of the sunset.  Frankie watched as the sky changed colors, feeling more and more enthusiastic as it grew darker.  Once the night stars were twinkling, he would line up for the light parade.  The fire truck had been decorated with strings of lights to show off his ladders and the hose, neatly wrapped in a spiral.  Frankie wondered what the police cars and ambulances would look like.

They were all part of the parade.  The fire truck took a deep dragon breath in and out (deep breath) and felt a bit more relaxed as the stars lit up the sky.  Frankie heard some cheering as the firemen all hopped aboard.  They turned the firetruck’s lights on and Frankie lit up the station.  It was time to line up for the parade!  As Frankie approached the line, he searched for his spot.  There it was!  He was right behind the ambulances and ahead of the police cars.  Now, Frankie just had to wait until it was time to go.

He felt eager to see the delight on the kids faces. Then, as the firetruck waited, he remembered the kids tour of the fire station and how sensitive some of the little kids were to the sound of his siren.  He looked around and realized that the ambulances had sirens, and the police cars had sirens.

Brian and his friends have a great time racing around Brian's neighborhood.
    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 4:18
    The Big Race Excerpt:

It was a beautiful day on Ahway Island. The birds happily sang their songs in the lush, green trees. The big bright sun welcomed everyone on Ahway Island to come outside and have fun. Today was an absolutely perfect day to play outside, Brian thought as he sat in Winfield Wheelchair at the kitchen table eating his cereal and staring out the window.

Today would be an exciting day. Brian was going to play with his best friends Anora and Javier. The last time he had seen Anora in class, she told him that she had a special surprise for him. Anora always loved to surprise Brian and Javier with amazing ideas.

As Brian was finished his cereal, the doorbell rang. Brian's mom answered it.

"Hello, Javier! Hello Anora!" Brian's mom said.

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 9:14

    A Surprising Friend Excerpt:
The night sky was dark, as the clouds covered the stars and the moon.  A crisp breeze circled Skyler the skunk as he relaxed in the little forest clearing.  Above him clouds drifted along, pushed by the strong wind.  Skyler gazed up, eager to see the stars once the clouds drifted by.  “Achoo.” The little skunk looked away from he sky and back at the clearing to see who was watching the sky along with him.  He turned and said, “Hi!” Enthusiastically to the animal who had sneezed.

Riley Raccoon said “Hi!  It’s pretty dark tonight.  I’m hoping these clouds move away, so I can find a snack.  I feel a bit hungry.”

“Me too.” Skyler said.  “Oh I’m Skyler.”

“I’m Riley. Maybe we can go find a snack when it’s not quite so dark.” The raccoon replied.

That sounds good to me.” Said the little skunk.  At that moment the wind moved the clouds away from the full moon and it shined brightly.  Moonlight illuminated the clearing… and Skyler’s bright white stripes.

  • 589: The New Toy: a kids’ relaxation and story
Alyssa Doll learns about similarities and differences when she meets a new toy named Neil Nutcracker.
    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 5:11
    A New Toy Excerpt:

It was a chilly afternoon on Ahway Island. The ground was blanketed in fresh white snow that looked like someone had covered the whole island in powdered sugar. The bare branches on the trees were coated in icicles that sparkled brilliantly in the afternoon sunlight. Alyssa Doll sat, cozy in her toybox, occasionally peeking out to watch the snow fall outside the window. Alyssa loved it when it snowed.

When it snowed, Alyssa’s human friend, C.J., liked to dress up Alyssa in her favorite pink jacket and brown boots so they could play outside together. Then, C.J. would take Alyssa back inside and they would enjoy a nice warm cup of cocoa together – real cocoa for C.J., and pretend cocoa for Alyssa, of course.

But today’s snowy day was a little different. Alyssa and the other toys remained in the toy box because C.J. had gone away in the morning. Alyssa waited patiently in the toy box, wondering about all the things that she and the other toys would get to do when C.J. returned home.

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 9:30

    Friendly Frogs Excerpt:
The dragon watched as the enchanted forest filled with a red orange glow.  The sun was setting and it was time for one of the dragon’s adventures.  Tonight the dragon would go to the beach once again. Stepping outside the cozy cave, the dragon spread its wings and lifted up on the cool breeze.

The dragon quickly spotted the train track and followed it.  As the dragon flew, it noticed the air growing warmer and warmer.  The sound of the waves echoed in the dragon’s ear. Below, the warm sand invited the dragon to land.  As the dragon landed, the soft sand hugged the dragon’s feet.

Paula the blue penguin waddled over to the dragon with a wide grin.  She carried Benji the sand bucket with her.   They both felt excited to see the friendly dragon.

    “Welcome back!” Paula said.

“We’re so glad to see you!” Benji added.

Eddie goes to visit his friend Javier to play with a football but Eddie doesn't want to get dirty. Will Eddie be able to play with his friend?
    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 4:17
    A Friendly Football Excerpt:

It was a sunny day on Ahway Island. Eddie sat at the dining table in his family’s house, happily drawing a picture of a rainbow using his favorite colored pencils. Today was an exciting day: Eddie was going to visit Javier for a playdate! Eddie always had fun with Javier at recess but this was the first time he was going to Javier’s house.

Just as Eddie put the finishing touches on his drawing, Eddie’s Dad called him. “Eddie! It’s time to go see Javier!”

Eddie put his colored pencils away and carefully placed his drawing into his purple backpack. With the backpack, he ran to the car as fast as he could, hopped into the back seat, and fastened his seatbelt. Eddie’s dad got in the car shortly after. Eddie saw his dad look in the rearview mirror and smile. Eddie smiled back at him.

    Your Turn Excerpt:
James peered out the window at the soft fluffy snow flakes drifting down from the clouds. As the snowflakes fell into the spot light of the outdoor lamps, each flake gleamed bright white and then settled onto the grass.  The yard was slowly tucked in by the white blanket.  James hoped that the snow would still be there tomorrow morning.

Julia walked over to the window, sat next to her little brother and said, “Wow, look at all that snow! I can’t wait to play in it tomorrow!”

“That’s what I was thinking!” James replied.

“It’s too bad, it’s too late to play in the snow now.  Do you want to play with the blocks?” Julia added.

“I would rather paint.” James said.

“I don’t know,” Julia said, “that’s pretty messy.  Mom and dad may not want us to start a painting project now.”

Allie and Anora learn that there is more than one way to play princess.
    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 5:13
    A Different Princess Excerpt:

It was a bright sunny day on Ahway Island. The sunlight shone through the windows of a cute little house on a quiet street. The sunbeams sparkled on the waters of the shimmering pond in the backyard, warming up all the froggies and pond fish who lived in the pond. Inside the house, Allie was sitting at the kitchen table, watching the shiny pond as she ate her lunch. Today was an exciting day. Allie was going to Anora Lewis' house for the very first time! Allie had played with Anora plenty of times in groups with their other friends, but today was extra special. She was going to play with just Anora and see her friend’s house and backyard.

Allie loved going on new adventures, and Anora did too. That was one reason why they were becoming such good friends. Allie knew that Anora’s house was right at the edge of the Ahway Island Forest, one of Allie’s favorite places to go with her family. So Allie was especially excited to play with Anora in her backyard.

Everyone in the cozy house sat quietly, enjoying the peace of the moment. Tonight, Grandpa told everyone there was a surprise on the train tracks, and the family eagerly watched the tracks above them. Looking up towards the ceiling, everyone watched as Grandpa flipped the switch. The family heard the tracks begin to whirr, full of energy.

In the distance they heard, Chug a chug a chug a chug choo choo, as the little electric train approached.  The family enjoyed seeing Alex the engine as he chugged around the house, and hearing the train as well.  The sound of Alex’s Chug a chug a chug a chug choo choo, was soothing to them.

Alex felt energy surge into his wheels and he began to move forward on the tracks.  The little green engine approached the tunnel leading into the room where the family sat waiting. Chug a chug a chug a chug choo choo, the sound echoed in the tunnel as Alex rolled forward into the dark passage.Today’s Meditation: Feel calm and relaxed as you send kind energy to your heart.
