  • 583. A Safe Space: a children’s meditation and story
Avi Axolotl learns how to keep himself calm when he's brought to a new place with new people to meet.
    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 4:32
    A Safe Space Excerpt:

It was a grey and cloudy day on Ahway Island. With curious eyes, Avi Axolotl looked out at what he could see of the world from within the big van where his travel tank was placed. He swam around slowly in the little tank as the van rocked gently on the roadbed. Today, Avi was being driven to the Ahway Island Animal Shelter.

Avi had never been to the Animal Shelter before and had never met any of the animals there. He felt a little nervous. What if there were no other axolotls there? What if the other animals thought that Avi was strange?

When the van finally arrived at the shelter, the driver brought Avi inside. The door opened and the brass bell hanging above the door rang sweetly above Avi’s head as his tank was carried in. Ding ding! Avi was placed on a counter in his travel tank.

The Sparkling Train is feeling off. Noticing the Train seems a bit grouchy the engineer schedules a check up. Will the train feel better?
Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Feeling Off” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!
    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 8:47

    Feeling Off Excerpt:
It was time for the sunset roll. The sun gave off a warm red glow against the darkening blue sky.  The sparkling train pulled out of its station and headed towards the forest.  It felt a little off.

The tracks seemed bumpy and uncomfortable, as if it were full of holes.  The train felt as if it were crawling along the tracks like a large snail.  The wheels felt creaky.  And the train’s engine didn’t hum, it clanked.  Even the sparkling paint seemed to lose its twinkle.

Every time the train stopped at a station, it wanted to stay for a rest rather than finish its route.  This was different, the train usually felt cheerful, strong, and comfortable on its tracks.  The train decided to ask the Speaker to see if it was time for some maintenance.  So the speaker checked, and reported back.  “The engineer says you’re not due for maintenance for another month.”

Oceana Sea Otter gets out of her comfort zone and helps out some humans when she plays with her good friend Alonzo Sea Otter.
    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 5:02
    Having A Ball Excerpt:

It was a bright, sunny day on Ahway Island. The seagulls were flying around the big blue ocean, singing their song. The ocean waves rocked Oceana Sea Otter back and forth as she lay on her back, floating in the water. Oceana loved to watch the silly seagulls play.

Oceana thought about what she was going to do today. Maybe she could visit Odette Octopus and have a nice relaxing day with her friend. Or perhaps, she could go for a relaxing swim near the coral reefs where colorful schools of fish loved to play.

Morgan Mole meets a new friend who shares a similar sense of smell!
    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 4:01
    Exciting Excursion Excerpt:

It was a bright sunny day on Ahway Island. The birds were singing as they flew around the trees in the Ahway Island Forest. The beautiful singing woke Morgan Mole up from a long sleep. The little brown mole lived in a small burrow near a large, pretty oak tree, not too far from a babbling creek. Morgan stretched and took a deep Dragon Breath, in and out  to help wake up.

After taking a few minutes to awaken, Morgan used their nose to sniff their way out of the burrow. They stepped out onto the grass and moss that covered the ground. Morgan loved the feeling of the soft green grass on their feet. Being a mole, Morgan didn't use their eyes like the other animals that lived in the forest.

Touched by the animals' help, Dragon relaxes in the warm memories of all Dragon's friends. Maybe it's time to visit them again.
Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Warm Memories” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!
    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 9:24

    Warm Memoreis Excerpt:
The dragon looked around the clean cave and smiled, pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful  animals tidying up after the party.  Sitting next to the cozy fire, the dragon felt grateful for all the wonderful friends living in the forest.  As the dragon thought about the enchanted forest, it remembered the sparkling train and other vehicles that the dragon had met.

Taking a deep dragon breath in and out, the dragon felt grateful to know them.  The train had been so kind, carrying the dragon home after each adventure, and showing the dragon new places to explore.  In fact, all the vehicles had been considerate and friendly.

The fire crackled and its glow lit the dragon’s gentle face.  The warmth of the flames reminded the dragon of the soft, warm sand at the beach.  The dragon smiled again, feeling thankful to have met Benji the bucket and Paula the blue penguin.  Lost in the memory of the beach, the dragon imagined the waves rolling along the shore, and flowing right up to the base of an enormous sand castle.

Gilbert Goldfish finds a forever home and helps a friend along the way.
    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 4:58
    Forever Home Excerpt:

It was a chilly winter day on Ahway Island. The snow fell softly from the big grey clouds, covering all of the sidewalks and streets on Ahway Island. The snowplows had some extra work to do today to make sure that everyone on the island was safe and sound. Gilbert Goldfish stared out the window of the Ahway Island Animal Shelter with big, happy eyes. He hadn’t seen it snow this much on Ahway Island and he was very excited! Gilbert imagined all the little kids playing happily in the soft white snow.

Although Gilbert was excited about the snow, he was even more excited about adoption day. Gilbert always looked forward to adoption day. He remembered that just last week, one of the bunnies in the shelter was adopted by a kindly woman. He also remembered how happy both the bunny and the woman were. Even though Gilbert was a little goldfish and not a big cuddly dog, he still loved to daydream about the day when he would find his forever home.

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 9:49

    The Tunnel Trip! Excerpt:
Billy and Emily waited patiently on the platform, eager for their second train ride.  Billy wondered what new lands they would see.  Emily hoped that they would get to go through the tunnel.  The sparkling train arrived with a gentle whirr.  Once it stopped, the doors slid open with a whoosh.  Emily and Billy stepped aboard, their parents following them on.  “Do you want to sit by the window this time?”  Emily asked, offering her brother the window seat.

“That’s OK Emily.  Go ahead.” Billy responded.

Emily shrugged her shoulders and slid over to the window, wondering why her brother wouldn’t take the window seat.  Billy smiled, knowing how much Emily enjoyed watching the scenery pass by.  Their parents smiled knowingly at each other and sat down in the seat behind them, once again.  Then the train slowly began to roll forward.

    “We’re moving!” Emily exclaimed.

“We’re going up to the elevated tracks, just like last time.” Billy said.

Mya Mouse meets a new friend, Skylar Skunk, and learns that they aren't that different from each other after all.
    Narrator: Female

    Unexpected Friends Excerpt:

It was a beautiful sunny day on Ahway Island. The big yellow sun was bright and happy, shining down on the green grass. The sun always made sure that everyone in the forest was nice and warm. The pretty green leaves fell around the entrance to Mya Mouse’s burrow. Mya popped her head out of her burrow, sniffed the fresh air and smiled. Mya was excited. Today, she planned on being extra nice to herself, she was going to find her favorite snacks from the forest and relax near her burrow. It was such a beautiful day outside, Mya wanted to enjoy it with a yummy treat.

Mya crawled out of her burrow and stretched. Mya was a very small mouse, the green grass felt much taller than it would for other animals. Mya was happy that the grass was nice and cool as it touched her warm brown fur. Then Mya started walking toward some of the berry bushes she loved to play in. There were lots of bushes to choose from, but Mya knew which one had the sweetest berries on it; a tall, light green bush with juicy red berries on it. There were always enough berries on this bush for Mya and her friends.
