  • 564. Rainbow Chase: a relaxing meditation and bedtime story
Petunia Possum realizes that the journey can be as important as the destination on a rainy morning with her friend Bernie Bear.
    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 4:07
    Rainbow Chase Excerpt:

It was a rainy autumn afternoon in the Ahway Island Forest. The raindrops gently fell on top of Petunia Possum’s little head as she stepped out from the hole in the tree stump that was her home and into the gentle rain. Her paws sloshed in the soggy grass around her tree stump.

Looking around, Petunia could see big puddles had formed from all the rain. With a grin, Petunia jumped into the puddles one by one, splashing water all over herself. Petunia began to giggle as she played in the puddles near her stump. Petunia loved the rain: it was so refreshing and such a great way to wake herself up!

What Petunia loved most about the rain was that it helped bright beautiful flowers grow. After it rained, the flowers seemed to pop out like small pieces of a rainbow that had fallen to the ground, growing into stunning treasures for everyone to admire.

    A Busy Book Excerpt:
Bea the book looked outside and noticed that clouds blanketed the blue sky.  She heard the wind whistle around the house. The chapter book knew it was a great day for the kids to read.  She had been holding the boy’s place for a while and hoped he would pick her up and finish the story.

As she waited eagerly a little girl wandered into the room and picked Bea up off the shelf.  The book felt delighted to have a reader and readily settled in as the girl began to flip through her pages. Bea felt so contented she forgot all about holding the boy’s place in the story.

After the little girl flipped through the book, she turned the pages to the beginning and started reading.

As the girl started to read, Bea realized that she had lost the boy’s place.

    “Oh no.” She thought.

Odette Octopus makes a new friend while playing in the tide pools of Ahway Island.
    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 5:03
    Tide Pool Friends Excerpt:

It was a beautiful sunny day on the shores of Ahway Island. The trees were happily dancing in the wind as the sound of the ocean filled the air. The waves moved gently, wetting the rocks along the beach.

Underneath the cool waters was a bed of coral and colorful sea plants, Odette Octopus was floating near the coral, admiring the beauty all around her as she moved toward the shoreline. Odette loved to swim near the shore. In her experience, it was the perfect way to meet new friends.

Today, the strong wind was creating bigger waves than usual, and Odette was excited to swim in the big, rolling waves near the sandy shore.

Ice coats the surface of the lake and Teagan needs to move a barge. Will Izzy, the ice breaker ship be able to help?
Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Breaking The Ice” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!
    Narrator: Male

    Final Dragon Breaths: 8:44

    Breaking The Ice Excerpt:
The sun streamed down onto the boat as it rested next to the dock.  A thin layer of ice coated the surface of the water.  Waves caused the ice sheet to roll. Occasionally the waves would break through, flowing across the surface of the ice.  Before the water could retreat back down, the wind cooled it and the ice grew a little thicker.

The little icebreaker enjoyed a sight that few boats ever saw.  Not that they wanted to.  Ice was a frightening prospect for most boats.  Izzy the ice breaker watched as more and more ice formed on the surface of the lake. It was beautiful.  She loved watching the ice sparkle as sunlight danced across the bumps and ridges.

It would sparkle even more when she broke the sheet of ice into smaller pieces.  Izzy imagined the sight of each edge glistening in the sun, as cracked the sheet of ice. Soon it would be time to create open water for the ships to travel on. For now, the ice breaker was content to watch as the ice began to stretch across the sea.

Leroy Lion helps his friends compromise by suggesting a new game to his friends Giselle Giraffe and Oliver Elephant.
    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 4:07
    Hide and Tag Excerpt:

It was a beautiful sunny day on Ahway Island. The sun was bright, shining down on all of the big green trees living in the Ahway Island Animal Sanctuary. The trees swayed in the wind, nice and slow, like they were gently dancing to a calming song. Leroy Lion stretched and let out a big, happy yawn. He was ready to start his day.

Leroy looked up to the sun and roared. He had been practicing his roar for a few days now, he couldn’t wait to show his friends Oliver Elephant and Giselle Giraffe.

Leroy would love to pounce and jump around the Ahway Island Sanctuary with his friends. Giselle’s favorite game to play was tag.

Oliver loved to play in the pond where Henrietta Hippo swam.

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Do You See Me?” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!
    Narrator: Female

    Final Dragon Breath: 9:30

Do You See Me? Show Excerpt:
The brightly colored trees stood out against the blue sky.  More and more blue showed through the trees’ branches as brown, red, orange, and gold leaves drifted to the ground.  The leaves twirled and swirled with the breeze before resting on the ground.

After playing with the leaves, the cool breeze ruffled the little mouse’s fur, and Mya quickly scampered over to rest next to a warm tree root.

The air was growing colder. She needed to find a cozy place to stay where she could store some food for the winter.  The little mouse nestled in close to the tree trunk where the wind could no longer ruffle her fur.

Feeling warm and secure the little mouse relaxed and watched as leaves tumbled by. Then Mya saw another furry little creature.  It looked a little bit like another mouse.

She smiled and waved, hoping the other mouse would see her.  It worked! The other mouse scampered right towards her and then… bump.  The other mouse had run right into Mya.  She rubbed her forehead and said  “Ow!”

“Who’s there?” The other said, looking around in all directions, and seeming to. Be startled.

“I’m Mya. Why did you run into me?” The little mouse said, feeling puzzled as to why this mouse was startled at all.  She was right there in front of the other mouse’s nose.

Teagan Tugboat is reminded that everyone has their own special abilities when Izzy Icebreaker rescues her from the ice.
    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 4:48
    Rescue Mission Excerpt:

It was a cold winter day on Ahway Island. Sunlight filled the clear blue sky and shimmered on the water as Teagan Tugboat’s captain steered her out of Ahway Island Harbor.

Teagan was excited about this adventurous day. They were headed north for a special winter training mission. It would be the farthest Teagan had ever sailed from Ahway Island Bay.

Teagan had always dreamed of going to far away places, but her job didn’t require such long journeys. Most of her work focused on helping boats enter and exit Ahway Island Harbor. It was an important job and she liked doing it, but today she was very happy to get the opportunity to explore a totally new part of the waters around Ahway Island.

    An Invitation Show Excerpt:
A cool breeze drifted into the cozy cave and the dragon curled a little tighter, wishing to stay warm and enjoy its dream a little longer.  The breeze tickled the dragon’s nose and the dragon giggled.  Awake now, the the dragon stretched and sighed.  It was time to get on with the day.  The dragon smiled, knowing that it was time to make invitations for the thankful party.

Despite initially feeling reluctant to get out of bed, the dragon now popped up eagerly and headed further into the cave beyond the reach of the cool breeze.  The dragon took a deep breath in and out and lit the logs laying in the fireplace.  A warm glow filled the cave, the dragon rubbed its paws together, ready to create the invitations.

Next to the fireplace there was a stack of leaves flattened under a large stone. The dragon moved the stone and picked up a large red maple leaf.  Admiring it in the light from the fire, the dragon decided that the leaves would be just right for invitations.

Now the dragon just needed something to write with. The dragon looked around and discovered a stick blackened by fire. The dragon picked up the charred stick and began to write, “You’re Invited to the Dragon’s Thankful Party” on a leaf.  Today’s Meditation: Feel your muscles relax as you check in with your body from head to toe.

    Sweeter Than Honey Excerpt:

It was a sunny autumn morning on Ahway Island. Within the Ahway Island Forest, the breeze gently blew on the orange and red leaves of the maple trees, making them swirl and dance like ballerinas on a stage. An orange leaf spun and flipped before landing gently in front of Bernie Bear’s nose. Bernie yawned (yawn) and stretched. Today was going to be a good day, he thought.

Bernie stepped out of his den and said “Good morning!” to the sun, the leaves, and the green grass.

“Good morning, sun. Good morning leaves,” Bernie said cheerily.

Helen, eager to share her ideas for their play, waited for her friends under the great oak tree at the park.  She looked up at the crisp blue sky through the branches, and noticed she could see a lot more blue.  The oak had changed quite a bit since their last get together.  Brown leaves drifted down as Helen looked up into the crown of the tree.

“Hi Helen!”  It was Rogelio and Brianna!  Now they could get started.

“Hi!” Helen replied.  All three were grinning ear to ear.  “I’m so glad you’re here!” Helen said.  “I have so many ideas that I want to…”

Before she had a chance to finish Rogelio excitedly said, “Me too! I’ve been thinking about the music for the play and the sets.  Wait till you see!”

“What ideas did you have Helen? I have some to share too!” Brianna added.
