  • 382. Spinning Ideas: a calming story and meditation
When the contractor announces the day's project Dizzy the concrete mixer repeats the same spinning ideas. How will she get unstuck?

    Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:12

    Narrator: Female
    Spinning Ideas Excerpt:
Dory and Danny replied, “Good morning Dizzy!” The dump trucks settled into the morning meeting circle with Dizzy followed shortly by Ellie the excavator, Connor the Crane and finally Ronald the Roller. Once all the vehicles were ready, the contractor came out to share today’s project.

“Good morning, everyone. Today, we have a quick little project. We’re making a gravel driveway. So, some of you have the day off. Ellie you’ll scoop up the top layer and clear the area. Ronald, you’ll compress the area for the driveway to get it ready for the gravel. Danny and Dory, you’ll carry away the top layer of dirt and bring in the gravel for Ellie to spread. Ronald, you’ll smooth each layer out. Dizzy, Connor, we don’t have anything for you today. You can relax. We’ll see you when we get back.”

Dizzy’s drum started to rotate. “Wait…” she said, “I always help make driveways. Who’s going to pour the concrete?”

“Uh oh” Danny said. “Dizzy’s drum is spinning. I think she’s getting stuck.”

    A Cheerful Day Excerpt:
Everyone gathered in the kitchen for breakfast, and Mia asked, “Can we help you with the garden today?”  All the adults smiled.

“Of course, Mia.  We’ll have to go out and see what needs to be done today.”  Grandpa answered.

“I thought it would be time to pick the beets.”  Max said.

“It might be.”  Grandpa said, “They were looking pretty close yesterday. We’ll have to check and see if they’re peeking out of the soil yet. The garden tells us what is ready. We have to look to know what needs to be done.”

“It’s always a surprise.”  Mom said, “So finish your breakfast, and we’ll all go out and discover the garden’s surprises for today.”

Soon everyone was ready.  “Ok Max, you go with grandma to check the beets and zucchini, and Mia go with grandpa to check on the cucumbers and tomatoes.  We’ll water, weed, and bring new baskets if you need one.” Dad said.

“OK!” Max and Mia exclaimed, feeling excited to get started in the garden.  Max carried two baskets and followed his grandma to find the beets.

  • Little Loons
Leland the loon teaches his little loons how to take care of themselves and notice what others are feeling.
Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Little Loons," and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

    Narrator: Male
    Little Loons Excerpt:
The waters on the lake sat peaceful and still. A gentle mist danced across the smooth surface, circling rocks and reeds. Through the peaceful calm a gentle song surfaced. Leland Loon called to his baby chicks. It was time for them to come back to the nest and eat. The little loons stopped exploring the smooth surface of the lake and listened. They heard their papa’s call and began to follow the sound of his song. The little loons felt hungry and were ready for dinner. The loons hooted back to their papa. Listening carefully, Leland hooted again, so that the little ones would know where to go. Slowly the five little loons floated into view. As they came closer together one little loon bumped into her brothers.

“Sorry,” she said, lowering her head. “I’m just so hungry.”

Her brother sighed, “You always run into us.”

“I know,” she said, “There’s just always something exciting to see or listen to. I get distracted.”

Leland smiled. He knew how she felt. There were a lot of wondrous things to see and hear in the world.

“Luna, when you finish your dinner come see me.”

“OK,” Luna said. The 5 little loons ate their dinner, and with a full belly little Luna coasted over to Leland.

“Luna, you are right. There is a lot to see and hear. I understand your curiosity. It’s great. I would like to show you how to pay attention to what is happening right around you at the same time. Do you know why?"

Billy said, “I hadn’t really thought about what to do with the money. I just thought I’d count it out.” He paused and then added, “I really like reading books… Do you think I can help the library? Maybe I could buy them some more books!”

“I need to think some more.” Emily answered.

Her mom smiled and said, “Take your time.” She reached up and got their jars down.

“Yeah. Why?” Danny mumbled, busy concentrating on driving forward.

“You’re moving pretty slow this morning, and your tires look flat.” Dory responded.

“I wanted to ask you about that.” Danny said. “My tires are really squishy, and my wheels hurt. I’m having trouble moving today. Have you ever felt like that?”

Dory said, “Yes, when I have a flat tire. I usually go to the maintenance garage to check my tires and oil every other week, so my tires stay full. When did you get your last check up?”

Danny laughed and said, “Oh I’m too busy to take time for that. I probably haven’t stopped by that garage for almost a year. I’m a healthy truck.”

Oh how the little convertible loved the warm weather when she got to roll down her roof and enjoy the sunshine.  Today, the temperature felt just about right, not too hot, not too cold.  The garage door rolled open and Carmen could see the sun shining through the scattered fluffy clouds.  Maybe she would go for a drive today!  Sure enough her driver walked into the garage smiling and looking up at the sun.  She wandered over to the little car and said.  “I think this is a great day to drop your roof.  What do you think?”  Carmen felt excited! They were definitely going out! Today’s Meditation: Relax in the grass as you imagine sunlight warming you from head to toe.

The wallabies enjoyed some fresh green grasses and some sweet and delicate flowers. With a full belly, Willow felt curiosity encouraging her to explore. A butterfly landed on her nose and then fluttered away. The little wallaby leapt about following the butterfly. As the colorful bug settled onto the high branch of a tree, the little wallaby noticed what seemed to be a couple of furry rocks rolling towards her. Alarmed she stomped her foot and quickly hopped back into her mother’s pouch. Willow mother chuckled and said, “It’s ok Willow. Meet Willie and Wylie Wombat.”

    Sand Dragon Excerpt:
Spreading wings wide to catch the breeze, the dragon rose above the train tracks, and waited for the sparkling train to roll by.  Then the dragon followed the train.  As they reached the warm beach, it seemed to call to the dragon.  Poof, a cloud of sand surrounded the dragon and then began to sink back to the earth as the dragon gently landed.  The sand felt so warm. With eyes closed, the relaxed dragon lied down and rolled over, enjoying the hug from the earth.  The dragon heard a giggle and a laugh and peeked to see who it was.  It was Benji the sand bucket and Paula Penguin.  They had watched the dragon roll over and found it quite amusing.  Still upside down, the dragon took a deep breath in and out. and created a smiley face in fire to say hello.

Paula and Benji said, “We’re glad to see you again, too!”  The dragon smiled a big smile and rolled back over. Paula said “The sand is nice and warm tonight, isn’t it?” and dug herself a cozy hole to nestle into.  The dragon tilted its head to the side, puzzled at what the little penguin was doing.
