Colleen is the author of “God's Precious Gift: A Special Needs Child.” At 6 months old, Colleen’s daughter, Grace, was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms and Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. Her daughter’s diagnosis pulled Colleen deeper into her faith, where she found consolation in the form of creativity. She was inspired to write a faith-based children's book for the special needs community that was as much for the parents as it was for the children. Her mission is to help members of the special needs community, their loved ones, and their caretakers find peace in God's will.

1. God knows what you can handle, so He will give you something that is gonna affect you enough to be able to turn to Him.

2. If I didn’t have faith to fall back on in this particular time I really don’t know where I would have gone to.

3. God was there with me and because of that I had the insight to see all the little ways that He was consoling me every step of the way, all the little ways that He was stepping in to let me know that you’re not by yourself, I’m here, I’m with you, I’m suffering through this with you because she’s my child too.

4. There are miracles that lie ahead that do not make any medical sense. And they will blow you away.

5. It’s gonna be through you that other people are able to see the glory of God in your story.

6. Just trust in God. You’re guaranteed to suffer in this life, but what is also promised is God’s faithfulness to you. You can choose to cling to Him or not, but He’s there regardless.

7. You can’t help but love somebody when you hear their story.

Shannon is a former therapist with a twisting and winding career which has landed her in the pharma industry. The road to where she is today has been paved with a great deal of hard work and also some hard times. Shannon experienced an amazing and unexpected career, a layoff which stole her confidence, a rebuild, and then massive burnout. In 2021, she was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that still presents her with challenges. Shannon refused to be defeated and continues living life and hoping to be a voice for people with unseen disorders and disabilities. Shannon has an educational psychology degree from the University of Georgia and a Master’s degree in Counseling from University of Alabama at Birmingham.

1. Any day you wake up is probably a pretty good day.

2. I’m willing to own when I’m not doing great.

3. How conscious are you of your choices and what you are doing everyday and what’s influencing you? Are you just letting the world come in and take over or are you leading your own life?

4. I’m so much more conscientious about the fact that what’s going on inside me is unseen, and I think what that has done for me is opened my eyes to say, what’s going on inside of other people that I can’t see?

5. We all don’t have to be 100% all the time and that’s ok.

6. It’s really about stepping back and looking at every situation with a different lens of compassion and caring that I didn’t have before, because now I need people to see me with that lens.

Carry survived childhood trauma, was a homeless veteran, and during Covid began helping others help themselves with resiliency and motivation through a small coaching business with his partner Marie. His efforts are pointed at breaking down stereotypes of toxic masculinity and narcissism and helping men uncage the goddess within as they balance their emotional energy and frequency.

3. The transformation did not happen until I started to do what I love to do.

4. When you want something, you make time for it. When you don’t, you make excuses.

5. When you do the things that light you up, then you’re lit up! Then you have the energy and the patience and the bandwidth to deal with the rest of the things that get thrown at you in your day. But when you don’t feed your soul and do those things that bring you energy, then when something goes wrong, your reactions are a lot worse. And it’s just a cycle that doesn’t end. It has to start with you feeding your own soul.

6. You have to be responsible for where your energy is at.

7. Now I know I never want to lose myself again.

8. When you put that energy and effort into yourself, when you give yourself compassion and you give yourself love and you put time towards feeding your soul, you’re a better parent! It’s not selfish, you’re not taking away from your loved ones, you’re actually making yourself a better person to be around! 9. Wherever you’re at, you’re at the right place. Wherever you’re at. Believe that.
