  • From A Coma To Personal Growth With Rohan Harry

Waking up from a 3 week coma puts life into a different perspective. When the fragility of life becomes obvious, we are motivated to make major changes in our life. Why should we waste time doing things that make us unhappy and don't provide us with personal growth?

Rohan Harry is a comedian and podcaster who had such an experience. After working in IT and begrudgingly working the grind, he found himself waking up from a 3 week coma, paralyzed from the waist down. Given the new challenges of trying to walk again, Rohan found new perspective on goal setting, and his life aspirations.

In today's episode of Be The Drop, Rohan discusses how he overcame challenges of the body and mind. Rohan and I also talk about the power of storytelling, and how starting a podcast was the best way Rohan could share his story, whilst developing his comedic and interpersonal skills.

  • Supporting Female Funded Startups With Julie Trell

The percentage of venture capital funding awarded to female founded startups is incredibly low, with sources placing it at around 3 - 6% of all funds awarded. SheEO was established to address this, by creating a global community of women radically transforming how we finance, support, and celebrate female innovators.

Julie Trell is the country lead for SheEO in Australia, as well as the Global head for muru-D, a startup accelerator investing in early stage startups. Julie is well-versed in startups on a global stage, as well as having personal investment in the startup space.

In today's episode of Be The Drop, I speak to Julie about her startup journey with Salesforce and her current work in the start-up ecosystem in Australia. Julie discusses the opportunities available to female founders, the positive and supportive communities developing, and the importance of empathy and humanism in the age of technology.

Graphic design is an in-demand business skill, it can be expensive and the population of people qualified and capable of doing good graphic design is small. Canva is a tool that democratises design, the service allows users online access to a library of well designed components, and gives them a canvas to piece their design together.

Cameron Adams is the Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Canva, a man set on eradicating poor and lazy design by distributing a platform that is easily accessible. With his experience in user experience design and involvement in big projects for Google, Cameron's connections and expertise have helped him to shape the success of Canva.

In today's episode of Be The Drop, Cameron discusses his journey from working for corporates to creating a startup and launching an International platform. Cameron reveals how Canva generates website traffic, enhances the user experience and how the journey of business growth is complicated and gradual.

  • Understanding Blockchain With Katrina Donaghy

The internet of things has made data an important commodity, but there is increasing distrust in how our data is used and managed. Blockchain, a practice of decentralising data, and creating rules around how we access, record, and use data underpins a monumental shift in the use of technology, and the trust we put in the keepers who hold our private information.

Katrina Donaghy is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Civic Ledger, a technology startup that provides Blockchain solutions for the public sector. Having spent several years learning the technology, and being involved in multiple successful startups, Katrin is considered an industry expert in blockchain by the likes of RMIT University.

In today's episode of Be The Drop, I speak to Katrina about how this technology could revolutionise services in government, how we use banking, and our interactions with artificial intelligence. Katrina's background in sociology provides a human perspective for our conversation instead of purely focusing on the technology because at the end of the day, it's how humans engage with and govern blockchains that will have the greatest impact.

  • Talking Coffee + Nitro Cold Brew With Jordan Cortazzo

Caffeinating workplaces can be expensive, unsustainable, or, with the dreaded instant coffee, unpalatable! Nitro Cold Brew has become increasingly popular movement in the United States, and is now making waves in Australia. Using nitrogen gives the coffee a rich, creamy style without using any dairy and, I can personally verify, it tastes delicious!

Jordan Cortazzo is an entrepreneur and coffee connoisseur, who during his time as a barista and coffee bean merchant, was inspired to provide a better solution for office coffee. Deciding to developing his own nitro cold brew coffee, Jordan Co-Founded NOFO to provide offices with cold brew coffee on tap > think a beer keg but only with coffee!

In today's episode of Be The Drop, I speak to Jordan about his journey from film school, to barista, through to starting his own business. Along the way, Jordan has learnt to overcome the challenges of taking innovative products to market, selling as a small business to large corporations, and the effort required to develop and test new products.

  • SouthStart: Supporting Future Australian StartUps

SouthStart was back with a bang in 2018 - successful in their mission to unite, connect and recognise amazing people doing incredible things. Across the 2 day conference, entrepreneurs, CEOs, and innovators came together in a celebration of people, ideas and technology. An exciting opportunity for startups to unite in their passion for shaping our future - it was eye opening to hear where some of these new directions could take us.

Live from SouthStart, I speak to three people heavily involved in this space. Alex McCauley, CEO of not-for-profit organisation, StartupAus, has deep insight into technology startups in Australia, from policy to current success stories. Jason Neave, director of the Moonshine Laboratory, the organising body behind Southstart, has many years of experience in marketing and has launched his own sports-betting startup. Craig Swann, The Moonshine Labs Entrepreneur in residence, played a key role in coordinating the SouthStart conference.

In today's episode of Be The Drop, Alex, Jason, and Craig discuss the importance of events like Southstart, we look at the future landscape for startups in Australia and they share advice for getting support along your startup journey.

This episode was produced in support of SouthStart Conference - an event that celebrates the collision of people, ideas and technology. Powered by The Moonshine Lab, if you're looking for support with your tech start-up, check out the website here.
