Today on Beating Cancer Daily, Saranne welcomes back Jacqui Bryan to break down the five warning signs of metabolic syndrome, an often overlooked condition that can dramatically increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers. Saranne and Jacqui focus on how cancer treatments and early menopause make survivors more susceptible to metabolic syndrome. They share simple, practical strategies to help listeners take control of their health through nutrition, movement, improved sleep, stress management, and effective communication with healthcare providers.
Jacqui Bryan brings extensive experience as a certified whole health educator, functional medicine specialist, health coach, and registered nurse. She is known for her approachable, science-based guidance that helps individuals transform their health journeys by connecting lifestyle, nutrition, and holistic well-being. Jacqui excels at making complex health topics understandable and actionable.
“This is not a permanent condition. Especially if it's caught early enough, it is a physiological state that responds really powerfully to lifestyle change.” ~Jacqui Bryan
Today on Beating Cancer Daily:
· Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of five conditions, and having three or more greatly increases the risk for serious diseases, including certain cancers
· The key markers for identifying metabolic syndrome are waist circumference, triglyceride level, HDL cholesterol, blood pressure, and fasting blood sugar
· Cancer treatments and early menopause can significantly increase the risk of metabolic syndrome in survivors
· Lifestyle changes are emphasized as the most effective way to reverse or reduce metabolic syndrome over medication alone
· A Mediterranean diet rich in vegetables, legumes, whole grains, fish, and healthy fats can improve all five metabolic syndrome markers
· Exercise, including aerobic activity, walking, and resistance training, directly improves insulin sensitivity and reduces inflammation
· Quality sleep and stress management are critical, since chronic sleep deprivation and stress increase insulin resistance and abdominal fat
· Discussing these risks and markers with your healthcare provider is important for forming a proactive, personalized metabolic health plan
