Once again, we got to sit side-by-side as we were both attending GoRuCo in NYC. We talk about The Band, the favorite talks we’ve seen recently, transpiling, and some of the awesome conferences coming up in the fall.

A very special episode: We sat down IN PERSON for the first time as part of the podcast and talked about a variety of things on our minds. AQ accidentally did not hit record on the first try, but we ended up taking a slightly different track anyway. We talk about overturning dogmas and preconceptions about the food we like and cook, and generally the things we believe to be true.

As we prepare for some upcoming speaking engagements, we discuss our different philosophies around giving talks at conferences and also give some tips to aspiring speakers in the computology community.

What is the role of research in computology, food, and music? We get to talk to our friend and scholar, Greg Borenstein, who’s just finished working on finishing his thesis at the MIT Media Lab. We talk about the intersection of art and computers, learning as a curve, and salad dressing.

What makes a beautiful pizza beautiful? In our first of many conversations with chefs, we talk to Sarah Minnick, owner and chef at Lovely’s Fifty Fifty in Portland, OR. Sarah makes some of the most stunning pizzas we’ve ever seen and we got the chance to chat and to know more about her, her craft, and her obsessions.

As you can tell by our terrible senses of humour, we’re dads. Since we spend a lot of time thinking about and caring for our sons and daughters, we enlisted the expertise of one of our good friends and “Old Dad”, Andrew Gerrand (@enneff) to talk to us about fatherhood. In this case we get to touch on fatherhood as it relates not only to our actual kids, but also as the stewardship of a major open-source project (Google’s Go language #golang).

Alternate titles: What is a Yak Shave? How do you know you’re Yak Shaving? and (most importantly) You’re Going to Shave Some Yaks. We talk about the age old tradition of going on the endless quest that in and of itself has many quests.

Believe it or not we get complimented a lot. Not on our amazing looks or witty personalities, but on our ability to order well at restaurants. This is an art and a skill, not dumb luck. We share some of our favorite memories of eating out, reflect of the surly nature of one of our favorite spots, and talk about the ups and downs of the bon vivant lifestyle.

In our minds theres nothing more appealing then a lazy Sunday with a pile of books, some good music, and a good dinner at the end of it. Books are a central part of our lives (especially books related to food and computology) so we’ll be dedicating a number of episodes to the topic.
