  • #28 | Kris (@krysanthemum64) - The Cult Of Costco
This week, I sit down with Kris Anderson,  she's a comedian and hairstylist out of Bellingham. Check her out @krysanthemum64, https://www.instagram.com/krysanthemum64/
I was really into writing and performing in my youth which led me to poetry. I was disappointed to find very limited avenues to professionally pursue poetry coupled with the stigmas attached to it.  Meaning I would have to find an audience outside of poetry and then I was introduced to comedy.  Both poetry and comedy aim to connect and engage an audience using words, but the devices were different and I liked it.  I'm really bad at being humorous,  but writing is almost a compulsion at this point in my life.  Observing life and following my natural curiosities has been my obsession since I could remember.  Maybe I should have been a journalist,  eh that way of connecting with people doesn't always resonate very deep.  Making someone laugh in comedy or hang on their seat in poetry that sounds like a good time….  In this episode,  I try to learn the process of becoming a comic in the Pacific Northwest and the concept behind jokes. Add usual,  we cover a large spectrum of tangents- attending alternative school,  hair styling,  rural culture and why I need to join the cult of costco.

  • #26 | Toni walks among life, death, suffering, and happiness.
In this episode I talk to Toni, an Oncology nurse. She has taken care of cancer patients for many years. I was curious how the prolonged exposure to the spectrum of emotions you would see from caring for dying patients and those who go into remission. I grew up miles away from my family in my adolescence, causing some distance, some unfamiliarity. It was a pleasure getting to talk to my aunt Toni and listening to her outlook on life.

  • #25 | Struggling with Life? Find your discipline - Alfred(@bobobajinski)
I met my pal Alfred while rolling at Livewire MMA in burlington, watching him get deeper and deeper into Jiu Jitsu was humbling and inspiring. He quickly got better and I saw something familiar- a hunger in his eyes. Alfred is a chef who sought more meaning from his life than cooking food for the masses, once he found jiu jitsu, he felt at home. I do not want to denigrate cooking, but as with many things, there are levels to the discipline. You can provide a service- feeding the masses or master an art form. Having been a chef myself, there is a large divide between these environments and it is difficult to eek out meaning from an average restaurant that is competing with the local fare. Destination or artisanal restaurants do not need to be open 7 days a week and make safe food in order to appeal to its customers. People who are driven to find something meaningful fascinates and inspires me. It was a pleasure to get to know more about Alfred and his experience in this life.
    We talk about -
Elliott Hulse, a youtube personality that focuses on personal and physical development.
The benefit of finding a discipline to obsess over.
Our desire for meaning, adversity, and struggle.
Alfred’s experience as a musician, chef, teacher, and jiu jitsu practitioner.
Our insecurities, mind games, and personal development.

  • #23 Jesse Marshal: Tranquilized by the trivial. War, Rural Culture, Community.
#23|Jesse Marshall was tranquilized by the trivial toils of everyday life. After being forced to join the army, the structured and stern environment felt like he was at home. Hearing his stories of deployment reminded me of my experience with community, especially a community that encounters difficult moments often. Finding a sense of strong community in any discipline, activity, etc. guarantees that I will stick with it and deeply satisfies me- minimizing my depressive periods. Jesse recently had his debut kickboxing match. We discuss his mentality going into the fight and his experience training in a discipline. Thank you to Livewire MMA for the training, community, and opportunity. Check them out on facebook http://bit.ly/LiveWireMMA

  • #22 Michael Miller on Trail Running, Ultra Marathons, and Discomfort
I sat down with Michael Miller to learn about trail running, ultra marathons, and how they've effected his life.
Check out Michael's blog, where he breaks down his experience trail running: bit.ly/MCMblg
Trail running is very fascinating, as with any difficult pursuit, you get to know yourself more and your ability to cope with life, grows. When you’re strong enough you can see vast stretches of the wild and you’ll know a certain solitude

  • #20 Joe Rohweder- Tattoo Artist & Mixed Martial Artist
Joe and I explore what it's like to harbor an angst that a conventional occupation does not satiate within both of us. It was a pleasure to talk to somebody I would have assumed would be the most confident and successful guy in the room to only realize he's very much like me and it's not negative nor is it positive. It may seem elementary, but coming to terms with my illusions of self doubt, has opened a lot of doors for me. I hope you guys enjoy this episode, shoutout to The Living Arrows for the fresh music on this episode, check them out on youtube, bandcamp and instagram!
