August 15, 2016 0038 - That Your Joy May Be Full [Abide Part 8]
The other day the kids and I were
in the back yard playing and getting some fresh air. It was one of
those days were the temperature was perfect. Just a few plush white
clouds in the sky, the sun shining to warm our skin and the wind
blowing just enough to keep us cool at the same
time.
The neighborhood was quiet and all
I heard were birds chirping. Then we noticed a bright yellow
butterfly fluttering across our yard. My daughter noticed it first
and giggling with delight she ran off in hopes to catch it. Like
the little brother he is, my son ran after her. They ran in circles
chasing this butterfly, laughing with joy. And while they were
captivated by this insect, I was captivated by them.
Now, I still have my fair share of
breaking up fights, toddler whining, baby diaper blowout type of
days. So when we have moments like this I savor them. I squeeze my
brain muscles as hard as I know how to make sure I remember these
moments forever. The moments where I can't believe this is my life.
Where it feels like a dream in the best possible way and my joy is
full.
But I don't want you to confuse my
joy with the things and relationships. The joy comes from opening
my heart to receive whatever it is that God has for me. For
me, it's being a wife, a stay-at-home momma of two,
and ministering to women through Beloved (this was totally not
my life plan but that's another story for another day). But
for you it might be something completely different. A fast paced
career life, a missionary traveling the world, or even a
professional athlete. The joy does not come from what
we have or do, but from simply being in the will of
God. In this week's video Bible Study, "That Your Joy May Be
Full", I add:
"Now many times the kids and
promotion and/or degree will be God’s will for our life, but when
we abide in Christ our joy will not be dependent on them. When
we abide in Christ we have the freedom to wake up each day, loosed
from the chains of people pleasing, self-doubt, pity parties, and
comparison and simply find joy in doing God's will . . . that
day."
I leave you with Colossians
1:9-10:
“And so, from the day we heard, we
have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with
the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and
understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully
pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in
the knowledge of God.” - Colossians 1:9-10 ESV
Dear Heavenly Father, thank
You for the fruitful, joyful and full life that You offer. I pray
for help to live an obedient life that glorifies You. I love You.
In Jesus Christ Name I pray, Amen.

August 08, 2016 0037 - By This My Father Is Glorified [Abide Part 7]
If there is anything we've learned from this "Abide" Bible study
series it's that God wants us to be fruitful. He wants us to shine
and flourish. Then He wants us to remember that all we have is from
Him and because of Him. It's our fruit, but for His
glory.
Now we can go on two extremes when
it comes to living fruitful lives that prevent us from giving
God His due glory.
1.) The first is
pride. This is where we take credit for what God has
done. We think life is all about us. Rick Warren's New York
Times best seller "The Purpose Driven Life" has sold well over 30
million copies worldwide. Many would consider this their most
favorite book ever. I think the book's popularity comes from its
topic. It's about understating your purpose in life and how to
achieve that purpose. The most alarming thing about the book for
most readers is probably the first sentence that says "It's not
about you." Your whole purpose in life is not all about
you, that's because your purpose is greater than just
you.
2.) The second is an
incorrect understanding of humility. This
is when we hide our talents and fruit thinking this is
humility. This is not humility. I use to think that being
humble meant being invisible. I then learned humility does not have
to do with how many people see you, it's about who you give credit
to for all that happens in your life. Humility is not about
hiding your gifts and talents but about giving credit to the One
who blessed you with them.
God wants us to be fruitful and He
wants the world to see it, so He can be glorified. Jesus tells is
in Matthew 5:15:
“In the same way, let your light
shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify
your Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:16 NIV
In this week's video Bible study,
"By This My Father Is
Glorified", Jesus tells us that our fruitful lives are
not only for us but also to glorify God. So that others my see our
fruit and bring God even more honor and praise.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank
You for abiding in me as I abide in You, strengthening me to live a
purposeful and fruitful life. May I live in such a way that always
gives You glory, honor and praise. I love You. In Jesus Christ Name
I pray, Amen.

August 01, 2016 0036 - Abide In Me, And I In You [Abide Part 6]
Sometimes life can just feel like
too much. Too much to do. Too much to think about. Too much to
process.
At the same time, it can feel like
it's not enough. Not enough time in the day, energy in the body and
money in the bank.
Yep, life will have you feeling
like you just CAN. NOT. EVEN! Well, in today's video Bible study,
"Abide In Me And I In
You", Jesus lets us know that we can't.
I mean He makes it really clear.
There is nothing that we can do without Him. Now this may seem
extreme but chew on this quote from today's video:
"On a physical level, if God does
not provide me with health and strength I cannot even get out of
the bed. On a mental level if God does not wake me up in the
morning in my right mind I can’t do anything productive. On a
spiritual level if God does not protect me and keep me I have no
hope and joy to motivate me to do what He’s called me to do. We
can’t take for granted even the little things God has provided for
us on a daily basis."
Abiding in Jesus is the
realization of just how desperately we need Him. The good
news is that when we abide in Him, He also abides in us. Although
we can do nothing without Him, that is never a concern for the
woman that believes in Him, because He is always with
her.
Dear Heavenly
Father, Thank You for everything You do for
me, even the things I do not realize. I pray for the wisdom to keep
a thankful heart that always gives You the glory You deserve from
my life. I love You. In Jesus Christ Name I pray,
Amen.
