In this episode, we discuss the impact of chronic inflammation, as a causative factor, in many of our modern diseases including heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, autoimmune disease, and more. Krista shares the following key takeaways in this episode:
1. Poor Lifestyle habits, over time, lead to problems at the cellular level of metabolism, specifically causing dysfunctional mitochondria in our cells.
2. The dysfunctional, or "broken", mitochondria lead to cellular metabolic problems, which means the cells don’t have the "fuel" to do their jobs anymore.
3. This "broken" metabolism inside the cell----activates the immune system to try to “help” the situation, but this leads to a chronic inflammatory response which ends up causing more problems.
4. This leads to chronic inflammation, or a non-acute, constant inflammation that is often "invisible".
5. Chronic inflammation is at the root cause of many of the most troubling modern illnesses we experience, including cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, autoimmune disease, Alzheimer's disease, anxiety, depression, etc.
6. The way to correct this problem, is to "fix" the metabolic problems inside the cell, and that means changing our habits. With attention to proper lifestyle habits including proper nutrition, exercise/movement, sleep, stress management, removal of toxins, and positive relationships (overall healthy living), we can begin to heal the problems inside the cell.
