How To Never Stress About Difficult People Again (Plus How To Master Uncomfortable Conversations In Three Simple Steps)
1. Forgive
Being angry and resentful towards others is like taking poison, and expecting the other person to die.
Forgive them for YOU.
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. -Wendy Mass
When someone is nasty, hateful, or mean toward you treat their behavior like an affliction or illness they have. That makes it easier to have empathy toward them which can soften the conflict. -From the book “Excellent Advice For Living” by Kevin Kelly
2. Choose Thoughts That Serve You
You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing things with logic. True power is restraint. If words control you, that means everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass. -Warren Buffett
3. Run Towards The Fear (Uncomfortable Conversations)
Your growth as a mature being is measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations you are willing to have. -From the book “Excellent Advice For Living” by Kevin Kelly
The Heroic Conversation
1. One Thing On Paper
Focus on one key point and one key point only. Cover one to three things to back up that one key point. Get it out of your head and onto paper. Write it all out in simple bullet points.
2. Seek Expertise and Feedback
Get it out of your head and discuss and/or role play what you’ll say with a trusted advisor such a coach, a mentor, your boss, a therapist, or a respected friend or family member.
3. High Warmth
This is conversation, not a confrontation. Listen. Strive to create a win-win situation for the both of you. Forgive. Show empathy and compassion. Be respectful. Let them keep their dignity. Move forward. Give and serve. Love.

•Learn to witness your thoughts.
•Use positive affirmations and mantras.
•Remove limiting beliefs.
•Give your negative voice a name.
•Keep a Relentless Solution Focus
•Focus on what you can control, not what you can’t.
•Remind yourself every day of your strengths and things you’ve done well.
•Visualize yourself performing at your best and achieving your goals.
Action steps: 1) start to pay attention to how you talk to yourself, and identify and remove limiting beliefs, 2) write down three things you did well every day, and 3) write down your top 10 greatest hits (your proudest life accomplishments).
2. Become a one percent warrior—get 1% better every day
•Learn ONE new thing.
•Get your number-ONE Most important task done.
•Do ONE hard thing you didn’t want to do.
•Act as if
Action steps: 1) Identify the one thing you’ve been avoiding doing the most each day and do that, 2) identify your number one most important task each day and complete it, 3) spend 5 to 15 minutes a day learning something new personally or professionally
3. Surround yourself with confident, positive people who believe in you and also give you honest and direct feedback
•Attitudes are contagious…you become who you surround yourself with most.
•Spend time with people who celebrate your successes.
•Direct and honest feedback is a gift.
Action step: Write down the 20 people you spend the most time with. Identify the people who drain your confidence and energy, and address them and/or minimize or eliminate time spent with them. Identify the people who are most confident, who believe in you, and who challenge you to be your best, and thank them and spend the most time with them.
