Trudi is no stranger to loss. Every decade brought about death starting as a child with losing her brother, then her father and ex in her 20s and losing her mom in her 30s. She has felt alone, lost trust, and lost her ability to even feel pain. The compounded grief left her overwhelmed and feeling like an outsider to peers who couldn’t comprehend her story.
In this episode, we discuss how grief shows up. Feels like shit and is normal! We have an open conversation about the power of allowing and witnessing grief in order to process and heal, moving through the pain so you don’t get stuck in the suffering. Five years of infertility, a daughter born with special needs, limes disease, an abusive marriage, and a traumatic divorce lead School Counselor, Angie Shields to the power of forgiveness, stronger faith, and living more authentically. But not without having to work to own her part through the recovery of shame, pride, people-pleasing, perfectionism, and codependency.
Angie shares her work in progress knowing that we have to bring light to the dark places for true healing and growth.
She shares the power of showing more love rather than sitting in pain, hurt, and anger. By showing ourselves grace and compassion we begin to love ourselves well which allows us to love others well.
Through her journey, she has found a loving partner and blended family that she wouldn’t have found otherwise, helping her live her Better Because of It story.

The manual is just what it sounds like. It’s an instruction guide we have for people in our lives about how we would like them to behave so that we can feel good and be happy. The problem is - they cause our suffering instead.
These manuals are made up of our thoughts and beliefs about how people should behave based on what we believe to be true, based on what we know and have been taught, and based on what we have learned. We may feel justified to have these expectations of others, but it can cause a lot of problems and be very damaging when our emotional happiness is directly tied to others behaving a certain way based on our manual.

Our overall well-being flourishes when we have integrated specific areas in our life that are proven to bring about wholeness. These areas combined bring about more happiness, success and overall meaning in our lives. That is the biggest reason I have studied, applied and continue to improve my overall well-being while also encouraging others to do the same. Why… because I believe this is the key to less suffering and more resilience and overall joy in our lives. When most people think of empathy, they think of empathizing with someone else. It’s no wonder considering the many circumstances, in both personal and work life where you find yourself caught between people or groups of people expecting you to understand. These situations require you to manage yourself among different individuals while maintaining some personal connection with each of them.
Empathy helps to avoid misunderstanding. But when you are feeling misunderstood yourself, empathizing with someone else is difficult. And if you are not aware of your own inner experience, your emotional and mental state, how can you be sure you are perceiving what the other thinks and feels as opposed to projecting of your own self upon them?
This is why in this episode we are talking about how the first step toward empathizing with someone else is to actually empathize with yourself. And I will teach you exactly how you can start doing this in your life right now.
