It's episode 49 of the BVK podcast and we had to go big, or go to the big house at least. We tackle Shawshank Redemption with the shocking fact that one of the BVK crew had never seen this film! We also have a special guest, Mike, who brings some insight into the prison system from his own experiences in it and he also sizes up the crew and lets us know which BVK members would make it through the first night.  

The BVK crew picks a very narrow topic this week, by choosing the most memorable moms in all of cinema. Some of these moms are terrific, some are terrible, and we asked our friends from the California True Crime podcast (look for them this March on the new Court TV show, Someone They Knew with Tamron Hall!) to join us once again to examine all the evidence and decide who is guilty of picking the best and worst moms movies have to offer.

This may be less of a pod and more of a therapy session for all the BVK crew except Zach, but ultimately there are a lot more laughs than tears throughout!

Who better to judge the "most memorable gifts in film" draft, than gift-giver extraordinaire and unofficial manager of the BVK podcast, Amy? You'll hear some childhood rivalry stories of her growing up with Nate (he's her brother), along with how Jimmy G could be the best gift the Niners could ever give the Raiders, and ultimately we find out how the draft lists "may-shur" up to Amy's standards. 

In our pre-Valentine's Day pod, the crew gets all sentimental and lovey-dovey about Ryan Reynold's ab-less, Definitely, Maybe. Unfortunately, the love is as short-lived as Ryan's numerous proposals and marriages in this movie, when the crew takes it to task and leaves Nate heart-broken wondering if he's gonna be able to pawn his beautiful ring.

Walter Ramirez, with the assist from his amazing wife Kendra, samples the wares in order to choose who is the Top Drafter for this week and who is going home in shame.

In between making beer magic happen, we talk with the mad genius of brewing, Walter Ramirez about the beer-making process and we follow it with a conversation with Jake Stephens, the manager of the Last Call Downtown Tap Room. You'll get some insight into what it takes to brew a delicious beer, what is going into our own BVK IPA, and what kind of fun you can expect if you join us at the taproom on the evening February 5th!
