Beyond Buffering: The X-Files, Fallout, Yellowjackets, & more!

Don't know if you've heard, but Cordelia's visions from TPTB are *literally* killing her. So keeping that in mind, "That Vision Thing" finds a way to make that whole dilemma even worse -- and it's all Kal Penn's fault! (Though it is nice when Fred compares Cordelia to a dog and when Angel... compares Cordelia to a car. Look, you've gotta take the small victories sometimes.) Join LaToya Ferguson as she continues to embark on this journey as Angel on Top's new-and-nervous host, this week with the help of guest host Connor Goldsmith, possibly the only person who can challenge LaToya in terms of Angel nerd cred.

Holy moly, scoobies, we sat down to chat with the one and only Juliet Landau — and she is every bit as brilliant and wonderful as you'd guess! We talk vampire sexuality, manicures, narcissism, Dru's accent, what she named the stars (to the result of such terrible confusion), and so so so so much more!

Plus, we talk to Juliet about her brand new film, premiering this Thursday (!!!), called A Place Among the Dead, which features Anne Rice, Joss Whedon, Gary Oldman, and so many other incredible voices.

In sum... DRUUUUUUSILLLA!! YOUUUUU FILLA! OUR HEARTS WITH DREAD, AND SO WE'RE LED RIGHT BACK TO YOUUUUUU!

It is LaToya Ferguson's first episode hosting Angel On Top, and she is joined by Kristin Russo & Jenny Owen Youngs this week for the Angel Season 3 Premiere: Heartthrob! We talk about Angel's new, colorful wardrobe, Cordelia's blazer, Ghost Dennis' loofah skills, our desire for Fred and Faith to smooch, and oh-so-much-more!!

Angel and Buffy may have split networks in 2001, but look at us — together for the first time on the same dang podcast channel like the dysfunctional vampire/slayer family we were always meant to be.

Thank you to Aisha Burns for our new (Crush That!) White Supremacy jingle!

Producer Alba suggested we create a jingle to use when calling out instances of white supremacy on Buffy (comparable to the way in which we use The Patriarchy jingle), and to create the jingle, which debuts in this episode!!, Jenny collaborated with the amazing Aisha Burns who co-wrote, played strings, and sings the vocals!

Aisha makes some amazing music, and you can learn more about her here: http://aishaburns.com/

SPECIAL GUESTS

Jen Malkowski is an assistant professor of Film and Media Studies at Smith College with a specialization in death and dying in media and you can read more about them at smith.edu/academics/faculty/jennifer-malkowski! Jen is also the author of Dying in Full Detail which can be accessed for free here.

Mackenzie MacDade is a 31 year old, queer woman of color, teaching artist, feminist, part time poet and general rabble rouser. She got her start in feminism from a book of feminist nursery rhymes, and her start in pop culture analysis from 9 years of homeschooling (translation: 9 years of TV and movie watching). A firm believer in queering the collective consciousness, she strives to inspire people to redesign their idea of normal and step out their comfort zone. She takes inspiration from Gertrude Stein, Buffy, Angela Davis, Faith and bell hooks. Someone once described her as “The love child of Angela Davis and Ru-Paul” and she thinks that just about sums it up.

LaToya Ferguson is our new host for Season 3's Angel On Top HELL YEAH! She also writes for The AV Club and Paste Magazine as well as The Guardian, Entertainment Weekly, Variety, IndieWire, and more. You can follow LaToya at @lafergs on Twitter and you should also *immediately* tune into her podcast about The Vampire Diaries (YEAH THAT’S RIGHT) called The AMPire Diaries over at theampirediariespod.com

We will not watch this episode or discuss it due to Clause 47 in our contract which specifically states that no episode shall be produced when there are simply "TOO MANY FUCKING FEELINGS."

Just kidding, let's all cry together! Willow will always find Tara! Spike is a monster but oh no he is treated like a man! Glory just wants to go home! Giles puts his GLASSES ON! Buffy knows that the bravest thing we can all do is

*sounds of muffled sobs*

Yeah, fuck everything, it is the Season 5 finale, "The Gift," and no one is or ever will be ready.
