I was awake. I don’t remember falling asleep and I’m not really sure how I got into bed. But I was awake now. There was a very distant ringing in my ears. Sort of like the aftermath of a concussive blast that makes you deaf. Only this ringing seemed far off inside my head. Must have had a rough night, I suppose. But honestly, I really couldn’t remember what happened last night. Or any night for that matter.

I’ve been teaching film studies at my local college for about six months now. As well as teaching classes, a part of my job is to lease out cameras to the students and keep track of which cameras are available and which are leased out. This particular story is a few weeks old but now I feel it’s safe to talk about that fateful night.

I love the forest. I never understood some people’s fear or hate of the woods. Until a few months ago…

I would have been about 12 years old when my parents sent me to that hellhole. They was so determined to get me to spend more time out of my bedroom and outside that they would not stop banging on about camp. And not any particular camp, really any camp would do. I remember it like it was yesterday. Camp Omega.

I was very young with this event happened to me. Young enough to be scarred for life by what I witnessed many years ago.

Many travellers who have taken the road late in the evening have confessed to feeling a peculiar sense of uneasiness as they pass the trees in the darkness. There are stories shared in hushed whispers amongst the children of the town. They speak of an evil presence that lurks within the woods.
