  • Should Christians Trust the Holy Spirit

On the surface the obvious answer to this question should be, “yes”. The Holy Spirit is just as much a part of the Trinity as the Father and the Son. Together, they make up the Godhead of our worldview. Further, Jesus, as He was completing His earthly ministry, told His disciples to expect the Holy Spirit to come and advise them. The Bible, and particularly the New Testament, is full of verses that define the role and importance of the Holy Spirit in the daily life of Christians.

  • Love your neighbor" is the Idol of our Age.”

I regularly publish brief  "Quotes", which are short phrases that hopefully elicit thoughtful reflection. Recently, I posted a Quick Quote that read,

“SADLY, MANY SKIP SALVATION “LOVE GOD” AND JUMP RIGHT TO A FALSE SANCTIFICATION “LOVE THY NEIGHBOR”.

    Conclusion

Many in this country, regardless of their religious affiliation, care for the downtrodden. We are a nation of good Samaritans, though sadly, I think we have lost some of that neighborly love out of fear of violence and retribution, just for trying to do good.

However, the point of this post, and the Scriptures in general, is that to be saved, to spend eternity in Heaven with God, one cannot just be a “good person”. The Lord wants us to be more than that. He first wants our love, allegiance, and a personal relationship with Him. There is nothing wrong, and everything right, with “loving thy neighbor”. However, if we miss “loving God” first and foremost, we miss out on the rest of what God has to offer His children.

  • Convenient Christianity

One of the comments I get most often from those who consider themselves Christians is that they “follow Christ”, not “the Bible”.  The focus is to “love thy neighbor” as primary, if not their singular, stated, but not always practiced, life goal. This desire does not require much in the way of church attendance, nor does it need to include the reading of God’s Word. It does not have to reconcile Scriptural discrepancies and, perhaps most convenient, it allows the “Christian” to ignore all passages which might conflict with their ability to meld with changing social norms. This includes pesky issues like pro-life, gay lifestyles, multiple paths to Heaven, Biblical inerrancy, etc. Further, one can choose when to call themselves a Christian when “fellowshipping” with other “believers”. But, can keep silent when it is more practical to hide that religious designation in the interest of “loving the lost”.  Their theology still encompasses all the positive aspects of their faith, such as going to Heaven, God’s love is the source of their love for others, and that the Holy Spirit is their guide to life’s challenges.

  • Would God author a Book that Slanders Himself

I received a new (to me) approach toward the continuing attack on the Bible as the inerrant Word of God. It came from a thoughtful atheist who posed an excellent question. Summarizing his point…

“A BOOK WHICH SLANDERS GOD IS NOT LIKELY TO HAVE BEEN AUTHORED BY GOD. THE BIBLE HAS PASSAGES WHICH SLANDER GOD. THE GREATEST SLANDER OF ALL IS THE ASSERTION THAT GOD WILL TORTURE PEOPLE IN HELL FOR ETERNITY. NO DECENT HUMAN BEING (GIVEN GOD’S POWER) WOULD EVER DO THAT TO OTHER HUMAN BEINGS — WE WOULD THINK THEM A MONSTER IF THEY DID.”

  • Gavin Newsom – Billboards and the Bible

Fox News — “Christians slam Newsom for ‘disgusting’ pro-abortion billboards quoting Jesus: ‘Satanic’… Some versions of the billboards, all of which urge women… to come to California to get abortions, advertise the state’s easily obtainable abortions by quoting Mark 12:31, where Jesus says, “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these.””

As Biblical Christians, nothing should surprise us. Newsom is wisely using Scripture just as Satan did while tempting Jesus (Luke 4:9–11).

  • Jesus Christ as “Lord & Savior” ?

I received a comment from a recent post on the subject of Sanctification. In summary, the commentor asked the question….

“PHRASES SUCH AS “ACCEPTING CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR” ARE NEVER EXPLAINED EXCEPT IN TERMS OF OTHER MEANINGLESS PHRASES. SUPPOSE I WAS TO SAY “YES I DO ACCEPT THAT”, WHAT WOULD I ACTUALLY BE SAYING? WHAT DOES “ACCEPTING” REALLY MEAN?”

  • Free Will vs. Predestination — It Doesn’t Matter — BCWorldview

I recently wrote a post entitled, “ Predestination is not an Excuse “, which was intended to challenge the notion that if God has already decided who will go to Heaven and who will not, why should the Christian risk being rejected by sharing eternal truth on the matter?

    Free Will Salvation

A response I received reflected an individual who falls into the theological camp of “free will”, or that man has been given the opportunity to make his/her own decision on accepting or rejecting God when confronted with that choice.

  • Coercion in Group Evangelism

Evangelism is at the center of much of the controversy between Christians and the secular world. Those who don’t believe in God, or at least the God of the Bible, reject the notion that Christians have a right to freedom of speech that includes telling others about what Jesus did for them, especially in a public setting. I have had countless unbelievers state that we should keep our religious views to ourselves and not push them on others. Many are concerned that Christians are taking over this country (case in point, the overturning of Roe vs. Wade), further aggravating evangelistic efforts.

  • Hijacking the word, “Evangelical”

An LGBTQ author I have a great deal of respect for recently wrote a post on Medium that contrasted Gay Christians vs. Evangelical Warriors (which was the title if you wish to find it). In that post, he offered his perspective that Evangelicals have lately become more militant. Further, he merged terms like “white Christian nationalists” and “Republicans” into the mix, all under the banner of “Evangelicals”.

    Conclusion

Saved, born-again Christians have accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior. Sure, we disagree on some Biblical interpretations. I am convinced that there are parts of my theology that are dead wrong and look forward to finding out which ones… open to consideration on this earth, but looking forward to what a perfect, all-knowing God will clarify in Heaven.  In the end, while we remain on this earth, while our citizenship is in Heaven, every one of us remains sinners, saved and being saved by grace (Phil. 2:12-13).

Based on the Statement of Faith of the National Association of Evangelicals, the term "Evangelical" is the definition of one who has a Biblical Christian worldview. However, I use the latter terminology because so much other baggage has been placed on the word "Evangelical" that it no longer has any true or consistent meaning in our culture.

The word has been hijacked because no one has come up with a better term for those who incorrectly merge the sinner with the sin, ignoring the true meaning of Luke 10:27 in the process.

Luke 10:27  “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

  • Artificial Intelligence and the Biblical Christian

In my view, as a Biblical Christian, God will close out our world at some point (2 Pet. 3:10). In the past, I have written about many of the ways He could begin that process, and their potential consequences. One that I missed until a few months ago, now holds the top spot… Artificial Intelligence (AI).

I know my views are both biased (Christian) and perhaps too futuristic in nature but, we are on a path that man will inevitably lose control over. There are those who are starting to raise caution flags, and others who are asking “who will decide” what AI will look like in the future, scientist or politicians?  Finally, there are those who are voicing assurances that mankind is, and will always be, the masters of our technology.  Respectfully, from both a global (China, N. Korea, Russia, etc.) and a Christian (we all have a sin nature) perspective, I believe they are dead wrong.
