Brad and Sydney Aboltin join the Big Hunt Guys to talk about “Memories for Home,” a GOHUNT film releasing Sunday, March 31st, on our YouTube channel. Since Brad was a child, he dreamed of hunting Dall Sheep in the Alaskan range. We recap his hunt and the film in this episode. Jim Harmer from Backfire joins the Big Hunt Guys podcast this week to talk rifle scopes, calibers, ballistics, accessories, and hunting. Jim has an intriguing background, he completed law school while simultaneously starting a blog and educational website about photography. He later developed other companies including camperreport.com, outdoortroop.com, and knifeup.com before he landed on Backfire. Backfire.tv and his YouTube channel stem from Jim’s love of shooting and hunting, and he utilizes his platform to produce shooting and hunting content. Jim has a wealth of knowledge due to the immense amount of firearm and gear testing he does. This episode covers a ton of ground, it’s a great episode for the firearms enthusiasts out there.

Brock McMillan is a research professor at Brigham Young University, where he focuses on the population and community ecology of mammals, wildlife habitat, behavioral ecology, and conservation. Brock is also a lifelong mule deer hunter. Some of his more recent projects include population ecology of mule deer, specifically evaluating fawn and adult doe mortality as it relates to predation and habitat health. He has also done research to examine the influence of maternal effects on fawn fitness, including antler growth over the lifespan of the fawn. Brock joins the Big Hunt Guys to talk about the ecological and social pressures facing mule deer in the West. The guys do a deep dive into mule deer habitat, predation, buck-to-doe ratios, age class, and the future of mule deer management.

The Big Hunt Guys have had some great guests lately, but it’s been a while since Brady, Lorenzo, and Trail have had a chance to sit down together and catch up.
