Katherine “Kat” Andrikopoulos joins us for an enlightening conversation about the ins and outs of digital marketing. A performance and brand marketing expert and the self-proclaimed “Beyoncé of Digital Marketing,” Kat has been the brains behind the paid ad strategies of prominent brands such as Joe Fresh, Loblaws, and Garnier. In addition to her impressive digital marketing accolades, she is passionate about giving back, and does so through a women’s event called Filling the Gap where she helped raise nearly $500,000 towards Alzheimers Society. In this episode, Kat talks about where her love of advertising and marketing began, and how she attacks paid online strategies. We dive into key tools for digital marketing, the pros and cons of various platforms, and the tricky balance between demand generation and capture. Kat gives tons of advice for both new and established brands, highlighting the importance of thorough research and planning before establishing the budget and going live.

Today we are excited to introduce our first guest on the show, Ian Jolin-Rasmussen, better known as Jolin Ras. A sound designer, composer, and DJ, Ian gives us a breakdown of how important sound design is when producing video content. He’s also a husband and a father and therefore knows all about the challenges of balancing your personal and professional life. Starting each morning with a 4:30 a.m. workout, Ian is fiercely disciplined and makes the most of those hours while everyone else is still sleeping. What emerges from our conversation is the importance of sound design and original music when it comes to marketing content, and Ian discusses the integrated yet distinct roles of a composer, sound designer, and producer. We also chat about how he cold-called, and used online forums (pre-social media!) to connect with the likes of Madbury Club and Vayner Media. Ian breaks down some of the amazing brands he’s worked with including Nike, Reigning Champ, Ciroc, and Asics. Traditionally a lot of marketing focus is placed on the visual components of campaigns, and you often don’t really notice the audio until it’s done poorly. But listening to what Ian has to say, you will learn why you need to be paying close attention to every layer of creative. For all the marketers who are involved in the production of engaging social media content or campaigns, this episode will give you some food for thought.
