  • Binge Movie Aftertaste w/ Brendan Mertens
Welcome to another hampering episode of the Binge Movie Aftertaste. Not only are Jason and I both hammered out of our minds, we speak clearly enough to talk to this week’s guest Brendan Mertens about a movie he is making which tells the story of the fandom behind a little franchise called Ghostbusters. Not to mention a whole hell of a lot more in this podcast full of stories about everyone’s favorite team that busts ghosts.
First thing’s first though. Before getting to Brendan, Jason and I take some time to thank all you listeners for not only supporting US, but also for the support you have all layered into the entire site since Law and Moreno’s episode of Monday Morning Moreno a few weeks back. We also talk about some minor changes made to this show, as Moreno has decided that he doesn’t like us anymore. No, not really. But he is making his Fridays open so that we can do whatever the hell we want on the air, which unfortunately means we will be doing it without him for at least the time being. All this makes Jason and I naturally come to the conclusion that this means when he’s not around we will just talk shit about him. Yes, we are immature filmmaking assholes.
Speaking of which, this leads us into getting this week’s guest Brendan Mertens on the line. Brendan is definitely full of stories, and we talk about everything from how Ghostbusters came into his life to some highlights from his podcast Cross The Streams. Between interviewing Ernie Hudson a couple of times and even meeting Dan Aykroyd himself, you can tell Brendan certainly loved doing the show. Jason and I express amazement that Mertens was able to do a podcast on the same subject for five years, while we struggle to do one on a different topic every couple weeks. With how busy Brendan is, he reveals the podcast is on temporary hiatus. Will it come back? Only time will tell.
After talking a little about the prospect of this upcoming all female Ghostbusters film being any good, Jason leaves the show to drink in peace, and Brendan & I get to his upcoming documentary Ghostheads. Brendan talks about how doing the podcast certainly led to doing the movie, and what it is like narrowing hundreds of hours worth of footage down to 75 minutes.

All this plus stories of when Brendan ran for office (no joke), a modified King of Hollywood where Brendan gives his dream Ghostbusters cast & director, many mentions of John Landis’ downfall, and much, MUCH more on this huge time bustin’ episode of the Binge Movie Aftertaste. So who you gunna call? Listen NOW!
And be sure to check out more about the Ghostheads movie at www.ghostheadsmovie.com. Thanks a ton to Brendan for risking waking up his wife to come on our show and we look forward to having him back on to debate John Landis when the movie’s release date gets closer.

  • Binge SportsCast: The Hulk Hogan Situation
Well, there’s not too much I can write for this description of the all-new Binge SportsCast. Well, I could actually write for days and days about Hulk Hogan and this unfortunate situation (and I almost did), but I decided instead to invite my tag-team partner Batch and our sometimes six-man tag partner Garrett to the show to discuss the biggest story in pop culture from this past week. We get into the rant itself, how it affects the childhood of millions, what’s next for Hogan, racism in wrestling, and so much more. What’s your take on this whole fiasco? Comment below or let me know @BingeSports and/or @THElukenorris. You can find Batch @multiversefive and Garrett @GarrettCollin13. Enjoy…or cry. Either way, sign up for the Binge Media Newsletter before you listen…BROTHER!!!

  • BingeCast: Pixels, Mr. Robot, Armada, King of Kong Movie Homework, and more!
Let’s kick things off with another argument. This time it’s Ernie Cline’s new novel, Armada that had Supka and Law disagreeing. In the end we can all agree it’s Wil Weaton’s fault. Let’s move on.
Ammon joins the party and so does long time listener, Chad Diiiick! Chad throws a couple reviews, invents a new rating policy and taps out before we get too drunk and yell at him.
TV Round-Up features lots of talk about Mr Robot, Ballers, True Detective, Gossip Girl, and The Bachelorette (no idea why we talk about this).
Movie Homework is a treat as we get to revisit KING KONG: A FISTFUL OF QUARTERS and update the current Donkey Kong leaderboard and some of the legends of the movie.
Google Voice is stupid as usual as we get some homework assignments and a bunch of people yelling at Ammon.
What Did You Watch has a cameo by Law’s kids as they review PIXELS for the show and Moreno and Ammon watch NON-STOP and THE MAZE RUNNER.

  • Monday Morning Moreno – Nutrition and Fitness w/ Eddie from Cali
    Shut up and Color
This week’s Monday Morning Moreno is another switcheroo from the standard movie and TV talk.  You should listen to this week’s BingeCast to get your fix on that.  Eddie from Cali is a long time listener, going back to the ol’ JoBlo Movie Podcast, and spends most of his time these days as a personal trainer and going to school for nutrition, fitness, and being The Hulk.  Seriously, Eddie is a beast.
I invited Eddie on because he’s been helping me get on a nutritional and physical program.  Getting old blows, as Jim Law knows all too well, and since I’m in my mid to late 30s now, I want to be able to train the right way, the smart way, without risking any long term damage to my body.  Because my body is after all, a wonderland.
Eddie spent most of his 20s in the Air Force, with deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan where he worked closely with interpreters.  Having a brother who served in the Marine Corps, friends in the Army who have seen combat, and knowing that the life of a soldier is NOT for me, I have nothing but the utmost respect for the military.  And being that I’m not fit for that lifestyle, I’m constantly fascinated by the mindset and fortitued of servicemen and women.  This was also a big reason why I wanted him on the show.
There’s some movie talk towards the end, but if you’re looking for something different like my up close and personal talk with Luke and his venture into full time writing, or random Cottage Life talk with Jim Law, I think you’ll enjoy this one.  Eddie is a great dude with a good head on his massive shoulders and he and I plan to do another round, more focused on movies, in the future.
Seriously, get active people. Even if it’s a 15 minute walk, or walking to the bar, just do it. You owe it to yourself.
I’ll get off my high horse right now.  Why is my horse Supka’d as fuck?
If you want to ask Eddie any questions, hit him up on Facebook.

  • BingeCast: Ant-Man, Terminator Genisys, Minions, The Seven Five, Ballers, and more
Law and Moreno kick things off with another mini state of the union, updating any and all happenings with the site. This somehow leads to some TV Round-Up where we talk Ballers, True Detective, Brink, Ray Donovan, and the Emmy nominations.
Ammon shows up drunk and late and shit starts to kick off when we hit Movie Homework. TERMINATOR GENISYS causes a huge (weird) fight among the boys that ends with Law and Ammon arguing about the factory that builds T-1000s. Moreno wisely walks away. We all feel the same way about the film but have drastically different ratings.
We kick Ammon out because he’s drunk and stupid and head over to Google Voice where we get some Homework assignments, a little poetry slam and a couple quality TV recommendations.
What Did You Watch flows with reviews of ANT-MAN, THE SEVEN FIVE, MINIONS, LILO & STITCH, INSIDE OUT, and a shitload of other TERMINATOR movies.

  • Binge SportsCast: WWE Battleground PPV, TNA/GFW, NXT & More
FINALLY…the tag team podcasting champions of the world have come back to the Binge SportsCast. It’s been five weeks in between pay-per-views, but Luke and Batch return with a vengeance to bring you the latest in the world of wrestling.
The show gets off to a rocky start with Luke worrying about the tornado sirens that are going off, but the show comes together with talk of babyface Brock Lesnar and WWE Battleground. We run through the card, most of it anyway, as we discuss Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt, Kevin Owens and John Cena, and run through the rumor mill involving The Undertaker and Sting.
Outside of the PPV, we get into how great the Divas segment from RAW was, run down the live event from Tokyo, and how disappointing Tough Enough has been.
From there, we jump into the hot mess that is TNA right now, the return of Bully Ray, the Jeff Jarrett return and how it could and should lead to some kind of invasion angle with Global Force Wrestling, which has gotten off to a decent start with a very good roster, which Batch is nice enough to run down for you.
To close up, we give our thoughts on the hilarious bitchfest that is the Steve Austin vs Roddy Piper fiasco, as Luke goes off on how and why Stone Cold gets a free pass when he probably shouldn’t and answer the fan question on who we would start a brand new wrestling company around, which leads into a conversation about a possible Binge Media Wrestling (BMW) draft, but only if we can get our listeners involved. If you think this is something we could get going, leave some comments below or find us on Twitter @BingeSports, @THElukenorris, and @multiversefive. We’re also taking ideas for a special Summerslam show, so stay tuned for that as well. It’s good to be back and we hope you enjoy the show.

  • Binge MusicCast – Elton John Album Review
Through a glass eye your throne
    Is the one danger zone
Take me to the pilot for control
Take me to the pilot of your soul
The Binge MusicCast is back with an album review of another classic artist and this time around, it’s Elton John.
This is one of my personal favorite MusicCasts that we’ve done so far.  Not because I’m a huge fan of Elton John (although now I consider myself to be) but because I got my ass thoroughly schooled in this episode.  And you can thank my co-hosts MovieFreak and Professor Rob (from The Beatles Episode) for that.
For me, I was pretty much only familiar with Elton’s hits:  Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Your Song, Rocket Man.  But doing homework for this podcast revealed a whole wealth of 70s gold (a decade I’m a sucker for).  From singer/songwriter, folksy ditties to broader more elaborate showmanship/entertainer productions, the evolution of Elton John in the 70s is pretty interesting.  I mention this in the podcast but for some reason I associated Elton with the late 70s/early 80s and it was pretty eye opening to know that he had done his best work by 1975 and never recovered.  Incredible to me.
I gotta thank MovieFreak and Professor Rob for, in all honesty, doing the majority of the heavy lifting in this show.  Although I listened to the albums for homework (Elton John through Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy), their extensive knowledge and breakdown of albums, their themes and tracking the trajectory of Elton John is something I wouldn’t have provided.
Though we didn’t use a typical “top songs/albums” format for this show, what did you think?

  • Binge SportsCast: MLB First Half, Dez Bryant, Open Championship
Welcome to an all-new edition of the Binge SportsCast. This week, I’m talking baseball, baseball, and more baseball with my special guest, Jim Poljak, a former host of Back Porch Sports and The Curtain Call. He’s also a former writer for The Bleacher Report and The Outside Analysis and happens to be one of the most knowledgeable guys I know when it comes to sports. But I also met him through Supka, so take that for what it’s worth.
But before that, we talk a little bit about the Open Championship, the Dez Bryant contract, and my hatred of this year’s ESPY Awards and the Caitlyn Jenner situation.
But yes, then we do get into all things baseball. We’re breaking down each division, every team, the All-Star Game, the playoff situation, Pete Rose vs Frank Thomas, and much more. It’s a damn good show and you should listen to it right now. And after you do, get your votes in for the all-new polls I’ve put below, where you get to make your picks on which five teams will make the MLB postseason. And just so you don’t get frustrated, yes, you must make five picks.
Thanks to Jim for coming on the show, and I’ll be back in just a couple of days with a new wrestling version of the Binge SportsCast. It’s been five weeks since the last PPV so you know we’ll have a lot to talk about. Until then, you can always leave your thoughts on the show below or follow me on Twitter @THElukenorris and you can always get the latest updates on my doings here @BingeSports. You’ll be hearing from me.

  • Monday Morning Moreno – Cottage Life and Comic Con w/ Jim Law
Jim Law, from BingeMedia.net, is back from a week long cottage vacation that entailed no wifi, drinking, and the beach.  Sounds great.  Law and I talk about the amazing feedback we received from last week’s Monday Morning Moreno,  and discuss the brand spanking new newsletter that you should totally subscribe to .
From there we discuss the goings on, the not goings on, and the hell that is the San Diego Comic Con.  No sour grapes here, we’ve worked the event multiple years and it’s a bitch with very little upside.  But alas, Law and I bask in the glory that is the Ash vs Evil Dead trailer.  How fucking awesome is that?  The trailer. Not us talking about it.  We talk Batman vs Superman, Star Wars, and how Supka is high as balls all the time and we’re out.
