Moreno is joined by Supka and Ammon, fresh off a camping trip that led to chasing Bigfoot and raccoons.  Jim Law is still on vacation and probably missing in Legoland.  So it’s time we step up our game.

The boys start things off on the Literally Literary tip, with Ammon finishing Wayward Pines, Supka reading the Tony Iommi biography Iron Man: My Journey through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath and Moreno starting Dark Places.  Then they all jack it in anticipation for Ernie Cline’s next novel, Armada.

TV Round Up has Ammon and Moreno being let down by True Detective 2, Supka has problems with the third season of Orange is the New Black, Moreno praises the Amazon original series Mozart in the Jungle and Ammon loves Ballers on HBO.

Google Voice is drunk and Supka is high as balls. Things don’t go well.

What Did You Watch has the boys reviewing the Neeson vehicle Run All Night, The Babadiiick (again), Beyond the Reach, Maggie, The Derelict and Batman & Robin.

Today is a great day, as after a half year of waiting and crying, I finally get my way and have both my co-hosts in one place for an entire show. With all three hosts finally onboard, we knew this type of show would happen, as once we started talking, we couldn’t shut up and the result is arguing, drinking (though Moreno and I question if Jason’s drinking of Corona Light counts), and learning about the film business. So grab a drink and settle in for our most epic Aftertaste yet.

We start things off with the lovely Jason Morris taking issue with some things I said in my Grumblings column about films that have not aged well. So for all fans of The Goonies and Monster Squad, Jason is in your corner. Things progress into the topic of the day, as I ask Jason what his experience has been working with visual effects artists. It is after that conversation when we get our guest Spencer Cook on the line. Having worked on all three Sam Raimi Spider-Man films and the two Matrix sequels, Spencer has stories galore that he is more than happy to share with us. The story he tells about an experience Raimi had while filming the original Evil Dead is a must listen.

After briefly talking about what Spencer is doing now -which involves working with the great Alex Proyas- and yet another block of time that sees Jason hating on the new Mad Max film, Spencer goes into detail about how he was working with director George Miller on concepts that would eventually have become his version of the Justice League film. Listening to these outlines of concepts and who Miller was planning to cast in the important roles of the heroes, I found myself looking more forward to Miller’s version of this story than whatever the hell we are going to get next year.

After a brief discussion of Peter Jackson’s King Kong, we say goodbye to Spencer and move on to what we have been building towards. With Moreno, Ammon, and Law already giving theirs, Jason and I took this time to give our lists of top ten directors. As expected, there are surprises galore, as we have almost no identical picks.

“ERMAHGERD” – Some dumb, asshole alien

The biggest thing people forget about Independence Day is that the whole alien invasion could’ve been thwarted had President Whitmore, aka Bill Pullman, aka Eric Walkuski, sucked his own dick.

I know!  We missed that the first couple of times we checked it out too, but there it is, plain and simple.  He endangers the lives of his daughter, his wife, and the millions of people that voted for him to represent the American public, and goes so far as to pilot a fucking jet….when all he had to do to defeat the aliens was man up, and suck his own dick.

 Not a cocksucker.

We cover it all in this phenomenally informative commentary of the 90s “classic” Independence Day.  But seriously, this movie is so fucking bad, we ponder why the hell people feel so nostalgic towards it.

We have very little recollection of finishing this commentary, other than we were thankful it was over.

Welcome to an all-new Binge SportsCast. Once again, I’m flying solo on what I expected to be a short show, as I’m fighting a sore throat, but a few cold drinks and some good topics allowed me to fight through. What a trooper I am for you.

But seriously, I got to sit and talk about the Rocky franchise as the trailer for the new spinoff, Creed, has dropped, so I give my thoughts on it and the series as a whole. Here’s a hint: The original is my favorite movie of all-time, so it just takes off from there.

But don’t worry. I’ve got actual sports topics for you as well, as I get into a plethora of things, starting with Canada Day as Law’s home country hosts the FIFA Women’s World Cup and how our US girls are doing. From there, I talk some golf, as yet another Phil Mickelson investigation pleases me to no end, but also get to some things on the course as I talk about how Dustin Johnson’s choke job at the US Open really wasn’t all that bad (see picture below).

From there, I’m talking about the deals that were made in the first day of NHL & NBA free agency, and finish up by answering some tough questions that you sent in for me to answer, including which athlete I would like to interview, if bowlers and race car drivers are athletes, and how I view the progress of the Chicago Cubs. Another week, another missing co-host. With Johnny Moreno missing the fun this week, the lovely Jason Morris and I take the Binge Movie Aftertaste to new drunken heights as we spend an hour plus reviewing new releases, catching up about what Jason has been doing, and at what stage his various projects are in. And then the surprises start……

Morris spends the first ten minutes or so of the show talking about the progress of his new film Collapse and how he gets new gigs thrown his way as an independent filmmaker. Past Aftertaste guest Adam Simon then calls us straight from the Wizard Con in Sacramento California to give us the lowdown of what it is like ‘taking the band on the road’ and touring the convention circuit in support of his projects. He talks about how we at Binge Media are ‘cool assholes,’ and that he enjoys meeting & talking to fans and people like Morgan Spurlock on convention floors.

 

Simon shares a couple stories from the Con and even puts a surprise guest on the phone for a minute or two before we finally let them go back to their fans. After Adam hangs up, Jason and I  get into discussions galore as we give detailed reviews of Jurassic World, Mad Max: Fury Road, Ex Machina, and The DUFF. Out of all these films, you’ll be surprised which one was my favorite, and which one Jason gives a 3 on 10.

Oh, and Jason has a thing for bangs.

I also get Jason’s side of where he stands on the film vs digital argument Moreno and I brought up on last week’s Binge Aftertaste with Kenlon Clark. His position on the matter may not be what you envision.

The other night Supka, TM and myself got together to drink a lot of buzz and talk about one of our favorite bands of all time:  Nine Inch Nails.  This is a podcast, like our Nirvana, Beatles and Oasis episodes, that I’ve been dying to do for a long time since we changed MusicCast formats.

Nails has easily been in my top 5 favorite bands of all time.  Now that I have the venue to discuss the band ad nauseum, and not just to strangers in bars, I eagerly anticipated this opportunity.  To be joined by two drunk assholes who feel the same I do about this band, even better.

We track through each studio album, discussing the themes and concepts of each while picking out highlights of every record.  By the drunken end, we rank our favorite studio albums and talk about the next phase of our epic Nails relistens.

Yes. We will be doing more NIN podcasts.  We decided that in order to go over their catalog, we’d have to break shit down in phases:  Phase 1 – Studio albums.  Phase 2 – EPs and Remixes.  Phase 3 – Soundtracks and our Top 10 songs.
