In 1985 there was no shortage of great horror movies. Just about every week a new classic film would be released. This weeks episode looks at a film that we feel is somewhat under the radar. Even though it is a fan favorite, not having an ongoing franchise may have put this one a bit below some of its peers.

But hey, we think its pretty cool and you probably do as well. So strap one on as we get deep into Tom Holland's classic modern vampire flick, Fright Night!

1985 was a massive year for the undead. Day of the Dead, Return of the Living Dead, and the horror comedy classic, Re-Animator.

As I write this and look at those three titles, I wonder if Day of the Dead was the most overlooked at the time because it was the only one without any comedy elements in it. Who knows. But what I do know is that this film was well received right from its release. Also it was one of the first times I had seen a VHS tape, in this case on Vestron Video, that came in an unrated version. Although most video stores seemed to only have the R rated version. Still pretty cool though in 1985.

Jeffrey Combs is so great as Herbert West I think he was typecast after this movie. But he is very intense and takes the role very seriously and plays it straight. The comedic bits he does in the movie are not out of place at all and do not make his character any less believable. Every line he says seems like something Herbert West would say and fits perfectly.

Thrashin' is the 1986 skateboarding movie that made us all go beg our parents to buy us a board.

A few injuries later and we all realized we were not Tony Hawk. Or even a potential member of the Daggers. Which is the totally radical gang in this epic. They skateboard and drink generic beer while causing all kinds of problems around town. If you mess with them, you will end up in a weird jousting showdown where you could be killed via skateboarding or shamed to death by not being cool.

Either way this film is actually not that bad and a change from all the horror we usually watch. Plus it has Josh Brolin, Robert Rusler, and a very fine Sherilyn Fenn. You should be searching for this movie just for that reason.

Shot for $20000 on 16mm and blown up for theatrical showings, "The Deadly Spawn" is exactly what you would expect. The monster has a great design and is very unique. You can spot the design influences from another film with the word "ALIEN" in the title but it has a different take on it.

Everyone should see this movie once. It has a lot of heart and sometimes that is all you need to make something that will entertain an audience.

But this time it is a few years after the original and she is now a ghost. Or a demon I guess. It really doesn't matter anyway because this is really just a rehash of the original movie with more special effects provided by Steve Johnson. They are spectacular as expected.

This time the setting is at a catholic school as well as Hull House. The story is the same but the acting is way better in this one. Everyone in this movie seems to take their roles seriously and they do a great job with the material. It is rare to see actors give their all when usually they are not very pleased to be cast in a horror film.

The production is also surprisingly good. I wish this and the original were given a decent release in theaters as they are just as fun as anything from the era and deserved better. But they seemed to get lost in the shuffle and had to be discovered on home video.

But that is just fine with us as that's how we roll. This is the bluray version and is crystal clear.

So won't you join us as we feast our eye holes on an underrated sequel known as Night of the Demons 2.
