Stocks fluctuated near all-time highs Monday as traders looked ahead to the start of the earnings season and inflation data that will be key in shaping the Federal Reserve outlook. With Corporate America navigating one of the strongest profit cycles in recent history, equities have also defied concerns about elevated energy costs and bond yields. President Trump’s deal with Moscow on its diesel exports and his praise for Vladimir Putin are just the latest in a string of Russia-related news that have sparked criticism from Republicans weeks ahead of a midterm election that increasingly favors Democrats.

SpaceX investors are finally getting some reprieve after months of being whipsawed by volatility as the Elon Musk-led company’s stock breaks above the level it’s been stuck below since July. SpaceX is closing in on a crucial swath of spectrum needed to turn the rocket, satellite and AI company into a “major mobile carrier,” setting the stage for a clash with stalwarts like T-Mobile US Inc., Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc. Once the company receives approval from the Federal Communications Commission, it will combine its satellite-to-cell services with a terrestrial network that can connect devices everywhere.

Wall Street traders betting on another solid corporate earnings season sent stocks higher despite lingering concerns about still-elevated energy prices and bond yields. Brent crude fluctuated around $104, bringing little relief to investors worried about inflationary pressures that could make the Federal Reserve raise interest rates. Corporate America is now navigating one of the strongest profit cycles in recent history, with the S&P 500 posting seven consecutive quarters of double-digit earnings growth.

Youth flag participation has soared in an almost impossibly short time, especially among girls. According to data from the National Federation of State High School Associations, more than 100,000 American high school girls played flag football at school during the 2025-26 academic year, which constitutes a 48% jump from the previous year and an increase of more than 550% from just five years ago. By the NFL’s numbers, approximately 800,000 girls from age 6 to 17 now compete in some capacity. We speak with Amanda Mull, Bloomberg Businessweek Senior Reporter.

President Donald Trump said the US would not attack Iran ahead of November’s midterm elections, citing “productive discussions” with the Islamic Republic. Trump's comments came despite Iran ramping up attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran-backed militants in Yemen attacking energy facilities in Saudi Arabia. The US will keep a naval blockade of Iranian exports in place, and recently moved its B-1B bombers from a base in the United Kingdom due to possible Iran-linked threats. The remarks follow recent reporting in The Atlantic that Trump was mulling plans to strike Iran before the midterm contests and that the White House had asked the Pentagon to prepare options for strikes beforehand.

Apple Inc.’s upcoming push into smart home devices will include a doorbell, thermostat and other accessories developed through an unusual partnership with LG Electronics Inc. The products will be part of an ecosystem of devices that work with Apple’s new smart home hub, as well as an upgraded HomePod mini and fresh TV set-top box, according to people with knowledge of the matter. We get reaction from Mark Gurman, Bloomberg News Managing Editor for Global Consumer Tech.

A record-breaking run in stocks hit a wall as still-elevated oil prices stoked concerns that potential inflationary pressures could trigger Federal Reserve interest-rate hikes. Those worries sent the S&P 500 down from an all-time high. Brent crude fluctuated around $100 as traders weighed a pickup in Iranian attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz against resilient Middle East flows. Ten-year Treasuries bounced from session lows after a solid $39 billion sale, but yields remained near the highest since 2002.

Residents in West Texas describe noise, odors and health concerns from a gas flare operating near their homes as oil producers face scrutiny over pollution and their commitments to curb emissions. Oil giants including ExxonMobil, Occidental Petroleum and others have pledged to reduce or eliminate the flaring practice, but a new investigation by Bloomberg News and The Examination found persistent flames at sites tied to companies participating in the World Bank’s Zero Routine Flaring initiative. For more, we speak with Ben Elgin, Bloomberg News ESG Reporter & Will Evans, Senior Reporter for The Examination.

Just a week ahead of the earnings season, the S&P 500 headed toward its first record close since August. Strong corporate earnings, enthusiasm around the artificial intelligence trade and a US economy that has so far avoided a significant slowdown have fueled a roughly 14% advance in the S&P 500 this year. The rally is getting additional support from lower oil prices, which have helped temper concerns about rising consumer costs.
