  • Book 101 Review, now in its fifth season, features Richard Raines — Christian leader, Elim Bible College Vice-President, professor, author, and CEO — as my guest.

    Richard Raines

Christian, Elim Bible College Vice-President, Professor, Author, CEO, Elected Official, Husband, and Dad

Thanks for taking a minute to read my bio. I've been a writer and teacher for nearly 20 years. In addition to being the Vice-President for Mission Advancement at Elim Bible College, I am the author of Finding Washington: Why America Needs to Rediscover the Virtues of Her Most Essential Founding Father. Finding Washington explores our first President's faith and virtues while making a case for a revival of those virtues in our culture. It is packed with historical stories, humor, sarcasm, and social commentary.

I have two masters degrees. A Master of Theological Studies (History of Christianity) and a Master of Theology (Christian Theology) and am in the final stage of a PhD in Christian Theology.

I currently teach World Religions, History of Christianity, Christian Theology, and New Testament Greek. Additionally, I have been a CEO and served in elected office and, along with my wife, spend all my spare time trying to keep my adult kids from moving back in.

Here's the thing I really want you to know: I want to connect with your audience.

I want you and I to have a conversation about the state of things in our country and how to fix them in a way that captivates your audience's imagination and compels them to action. I want to befriend your audience so that when I run into them out in the wild, we can share a laugh about something you and I said on your podcast.

I want our conversation to be so authentic that you and I become friends on this journey and when you think about who to book for your podcast, you think of me. Don't get me wrong, I hope audiences buy my book and enroll at Elim Bible College, but more than that, I want us to captivate your audience for the duration of your podcast in way that makes them want more.

  • Book 101 Review, in its fifth season, features Jason Morris—acclaimed horror film director, producer, festival organizer, and distributor—sharing his creative journey and chilling storytelling craft.

Horror Film Director: Jason D. Morris

I’m Jason D. Morris, an independent filmmaker dedicated to exploring the strange, the unsettling, and the unexpectedly funny corners of cinema. My work sits at the crossroads of horror, comedy, and genre storytelling, with a focus on creating films that feel fresh and surprising while staying true to the DIY spirit of independent filmmaking.

My latest feature, The Space Rodent, is a horror-comedy made on a shoestring budget that has already made waves on the festival circuit, picking up awards and building buzz. It’s now being released by SRS Cinema on Blu-ray, complete with exclusive bonus features and a free collectible poster for pre-orders. This project represents everything I love about micro-budget filmmaking: creative problem-solving, bold genre mashups, and a collaborative set environment where laughter is as essential as scares.

But my story as a filmmaker didn’t begin here—it stretches back to some of the earliest experiments in web content.

Breaking Ground with One of the First Web Series

In 2004, long before YouTube became the cultural force it is today, I created Millennium Apocalypse, one of the first-ever web series. At the time, streaming wasn’t common, and the concept of a serialized online show was still experimental. That project taught me the value of risk-taking, innovation, and perseverance. It also planted the seed for my lifelong commitment to pushing boundaries within storytelling.

From $200,000 Budgets to Gas Money and Food

Over the years, I’ve worked on projects across the financial spectrum—from productions with budgets upwards of $200,000 to films made with little more than gas money and meals for the crew. That range of experience has given me a unique perspective on how resources impact creativity, and why limitations often spark the most innovative solutions.

Working at both extremes has taught me that money can buy polish, but it can’t buy passion. Some of my favorite projects were born in the trenches of micro-budget filmmaking, where everyone involved is there because they truly believe in the story being told.

That’s why I created The Focus Blueprint, an executive function coaching program that gives people the tools to get organized, motivated, and confident in their daily lives.

I’m also the author of Keeping It Real, where I share my passion for authenticity — because I believe growth happens when we’re willing to get honest about what’s holding us back and take real steps toward change.

On podcasts, I share practical strategies for managing distractions, improving focus, building authentic leadership, and supporting individuals with Autism and ADHD. My goal is simple: to give listeners tools they can use right away to create real change.

Step into a New York City unlike any you’ve ever known. Inspired by Cosenza’s acclaimed painting series, this edition fuses epic storytelling with a rare glimpse into the creative process, inviting readers to experience both the mythic narrative and the art that gave rise to it.

Inside, you’ll discover the city reimagined: Lady Liberty reborn as a colossal tower of hope; the ancient deities Schist and Pegmatite embodying life and fury; and Manhattan itself revealed as a character—resilient, visionary, and endlessly evolving. Alongside the novel’s sweeping battles of creation versus destruction, this Studio Edition unveils never-before-seen sketches, concept drawings, production notes, and five monumental paintings crafted over nearly two decades.

A true hybrid of literature and art, Manhattan: The Rising War (Studio Edition) is more than a book—it is an immersive exhibition. Bold, imaginative, and visually stunning, it offers readers both a gripping adventure and a front-row seat to the artistic journey behind it. Magic Barclay

Health is the fuel for creating a magical life. Join me in this amazing podcast community https://podmatch.com/signup/podmatchamagicallife

never truly felt well. After surviving a rough childhood, torn between a narcissist of a father and an unfeeling and emotionally neglectful mother, I learnt that I was the only one I could depend on.

I always felt like 'the black sheep' and found it hard to trust anyone.

In my teens, my lack of control in my life led to anorexia and binge eating disorders. My weight was about all I could truly take charge of. By the age of 17, I had also become a binge drinker- leading to becoming an alcoholic by age 21.

After transferring this lack of self relationship to relationships with others, I found myself at the end of a string of emotionally vacuous and harmful relationships- culminating in a marriage to a narcissist (don't all girls end up marrying a version of their father?). Those self esteem issues came back and again via my weight- I protected myself by becoming morbidly obese. That was the only way my body could physically be off limits to an abusive husband (or so I thought).

After 14 years of being told I was ugly, worth nothing, a horrible mother and much more- I left! I packed the kids, dogs and cats into the car, loaded a truck and fled town.

The next 4 years saw a drawn out legal battle which saw me lose everything except my babies. I had to start again but the toll of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Adverse Childhood Relationship Experiences (ACREs) and my adult relationship disasters (including the one with myself), years of stress and physical trauma to my body culminated in multiple conditions that threatened to end my life.

I threw myself into study, learning about the systems of he body and how they each worked in harmony with each other, I sought help with my trauma and became truly well, truly loved (by myself and my kids).

I continued my study after becoming well and even though other conditions formed from medical negligence (before I was the master of my own health). I continued to become stronger, more able to handle anything in life and free from the past both physically and emotionally.

Now I am an instructor of PNEI of Trauma, the lead practitioner at Wholistic Natural Health Australia and the host of my own podcast.

    John Bliss

Most of us don’t have authentic beliefs. What do we believe? Whatever they told us to believe. What do we do? Whatever the others do.

John Bliss is a writer and thinker passionate about unraveling the mystery of our lives. He is at heart a skeptic and an individualist. He distrusts groups and authorities of all kinds, as it is clear that humanity—even its brightest minds—is susceptible to deep folly. His goal? To help people break free from hidden social biases and tackle life's big questions: Who are we? What's truly important? How should we live our lives?
