November 27, 2023 Elantris 16 (Ch 54-57)
This is the second part of our episode with our 2nd guest of the show, our brother Sam! This brother has read the book and brings some hot takes to the pod and introduces a new game called "Is this bad writing?" where his answer is always yes.
The book (and podcast) goes off the rails and turns into a spaceship as we close out Part 2 and begin Part 3. Sanderson takes a page from the Bookalicious play book and goes at warp speed starting at Ch 48 as he realizes his deadline is nigh. Similarly, we push through 6 chapters in one episode after Sam's best attempts to make us go faster. This leads to a never-before-heard part of the pod where anything goes, including Chrissy’s hair.
Some topics discussed include: Why is Roial so ick, and does this explain why Raoden is into Grow up Skipper Sarene? What does Sanderson have against fat people? And, will our whiplash ever recover after reading Part 2?

November 22, 2023 Lessons in Chemistry part 6 (Chapter 14-18)
The girlies start off with THEIR FIRST READER MAIL! This is not a drill folks...or is it? After reading their delightful email from Brooke, the sisters discuss why they started the pod and make mention of the ever-elusive mini-series they did on The Fault in Our Stars.
We skip bookalytics this episode as no time has passed since Episode 5 in recording time, which means there is more time to muscle through the continued disappointments that plague Elizabeth Zott's life. Bonnie Garmus makes an appearance in her book by asking her readers to not over-analyze every component of her book. Much to Bonnie's dismay, the girlies ignore this advice and continue their journey to uncover every hidden meaning in Lessons in Chemistry.
Bonnie throws the girls a bone and introduce the beloved character of Mrs. Sloane, Elizabeth's well-intentioned nosey-neighbor. After some initial hiccups, Mrs. Sloane and Elizabeth become allies in the sea of horrible men.

You read that right, folks- One chapter. In one hour. That's all we got through. We're splitting this recording into a two-parter. You can catch the second half next week when we go through Ch 54-57 on turbo speed with our special guest.

November 15, 2023 Lessons in Chemistry Part 5 (Chapters 12 - 13)
The girlies are back at it with a quick 80 minute mini-episode on Lessons in Chemistry. They start off by wasting time discussing the days of the week. They find the riveting finding that Sunday is the day between Saturday & Monday and is considered the first day of the week in US but the last day of the week in Czech.
We find out that Chrissy is a masochist (she has to have some bad quality) and is planning on running a marathon but has not been sticking to her running plan.
To make sure they stick to their timeline, they set a timer to make sure they stay on track. Within the first 5 minutes of discussing the book, Candice requests to pause the timer to give her time to do research on tombstone engravers. Chrissy makes sure we stick to our timer so our Fiction or Fifties goes unverified.
The girls discuss the difficulty of motherhood - especially single-motherhood, abortions, why focusing on abortion is actually the wrong conversation to have, how gender roles are introduced before babies are even born, and more heavy topics in another depressing episode of Lessons in Chemistry.
Luckily there is light at the end of this tunnel with the introduction of Harriet Sloan in next weeks episode Part 6

November 13, 2023 Elantris Part 14 (Ch 49-52)
In this episode, the ladies talk so much about memes that they become one. They emulate the half-drawn-horse meme by going into intense detail on the first two chapters and warp-speeding through the last two so they can finish Elantris before the end of time.
Sarene is still sporting her Carmelita Spatz wig but now she's becoming our favorite character as everyone else keeps getting worse. We have a few more rounds of "Cute or Cringe?" and also see why the boys' club treason meeting is so unsuccessful when a disguised Raoden gets invited to the club after knowing everyone for literally a day.

November 08, 2023Lessons in Chemistry Part 4 (Chapters 12-18)
The girlies show off their procrastination skills by doing their darndest to not discuss the very depressing chapters that chronicle Elizabeth Zott's life. They start off by welcoming their new listeners from around the US - thanks for listening (please leave us a 5 star review).

Bookalicious hits a pivotal moment in this this episode by hosting their first non-familial guest! The girlies make sure to utilize this opportunity to waste more time and discuss more things! The intro takes almost 20 minutes (this is not us taking feedback to add time stamps but Candice describing the pod)

While the girlies don't make much progress in the book, they do tackle big conversations - abortion, women-NOT-supporting-women, how stoics move through the world, why men don't have the same expectations in child rearing as women, and most of all the new Netflix Movie Pain Hustler starring Emily Blunt (shameless plug for algo. keywords)

Chrissy realizes at the end of this episode we have yet to finish one book! She comes up with a brilliant plan to hide the final episode behind a Patreon paywall (kidding, kidding...)

November 06, 2023 Elantris Part 13 (Ch 44-49)
The girls are back at it with another action-packed episode on Elantris. As always, the sisters need to waste time in the beginning. The listeners get to see behind the curtain of Bookalicious operations as they officially dub their analytics segment Bookalytics which they coined on the spot.

It turns out all of our listeners skipped Episode 2 of Elantris. The girlies recommend all of their listeners to go to Episode 2 and (preferably) listen multiple times on different devices in various countries to boost their numbers.

The girlies decide to make their eldest brother, Sam, their number 1 fan (sorry Mr. UK) as he listened to every episode of Elantris & listened to the audio book.

We pick up with Sarene once again doing all of the hard work of solving Raoden's two-month long AonDor puzzle. After fixing Elantris, Sarene is whisked away to fix the Boys Club which has devolved in the 5 days since she has been gone. We end with Sarene getting her very own Party-City-Carmelita-Spatz wig to adorn her bald head.

Chrissy makes a prediction but it turns out she had just read ahead. Candice attempts to produce the episode by giving Chrissy directives on what to say. This ends terribly and causes a clunky edit halfway through (sawwy)

Chrissy unironically pronounces GIF as JIF. Candice hopes that the pod will be better under the leadership of their brother Jordan, who they previously gambled away their podcast ownership to in Part 12

After spending more than one (1!!) hour on Chapter 8, the ladies warp speed through Ch 9-11. Chrissy is triggered by the Catholic boys home and both Candice and Chrissy are depressed by the end of Ch 11. BUT their spirits are lifted when they remember their first and most beautifully written review! The book keeps getting sad, so cheer us up by leaving a 5-star review on Spotify or writing us all the accolades on an Apple podcast review. In this episode we have our very first guest, our brother Jordan! This is his first introduction to both Bookalicious and Elantris so he has some fresh takes on all the goings-ons in Arelon.
We identify our favorite listener as our UK listener who made our pod officially international. Little do we realize this listener never returns to the pod.
The siblings make a bet on how many chapters they will get through, with the winner having sole rights of Bookalicious.
Spoiler: Jordan is officially owner of this pod.
We discuss Sarene and Raoden's zombie love story and Hrathen waking up to the Michelle Obama song, and play our first rendition of "Cringe or Cute?"

October 25, 2023 Lessons in Chemistry Part 2 (Ch 4-7)
ATTENTION: SPOILER for Chapter 11!

Candice is recovering from a cold so the sisters no longer sound like one person podding alone. The girlies learn that there is no better coattail to ride than Taylor Swifts.

In Bookalytics, we find that Bookalicious is WORLD WIDE with up to 1 listener across 7 countries. Chrissy correctly identifies our target audience - Slow Readers of TikTok, and Candice commits to making as many pop-culture references as possible #Britney #TheWomaninMe

Chrissy sped-read half of the book anticipating we would get to Chapter 18. The girlies fall 10 chapters short and only reach to Chapter 8.

We pick up with Calvin & Elizabeth falling in nerd-love. Chrissy realizes that she might be the obnoxious in-love couple that gives Candice acid reflux. We learn that Calvin has some head sniffing tendencies a la President Joe Biden. We meet the peanut gallery that is full of the geodudes (i.e. rocks for jocks geologists) + the Tonya-Harding-Miss-Frask. Chrissy gets a history lesson of the drama that was the 1998 Ice Skating Olympics

Chrissy does her best to speed the process up, but Candice's notes end up with her reading the entirety of Chapter 7. Chrissy gets the last laugh as Candice had the pleasure of editing this very long episode.
