You have permission to spend all the time you need to mother yourself. Whatever self-care looks like for you, when you put yourself first, you’ll create a happier, healthier household that lets you enjoy motherhood even more! I’m joined by Bryce Reddy from The Mom Brain Therapist to talk about why you should prioritize mothering yourself.
About Bryce Reddy
Bryce Reddy is a licensed mental health counselor and mom of 2 living in coastal New England.
About Mothering Yourself
Bryce encourages moms to get used to mothering themselves. Yes - taking the time to give yourself as much love and attention as you give your children. Bryce says that when you take dedicated time with yourself every single day, you’ll enjoy motherhood even more.
Because motherhood can be exhausting! You hear all the time to fill your own cup first. That’s exactly what mothering yourself is: doing what you need to do to feel like a normal person again will help you show up in a more present and happier place for not only yourself, but your kids, too.
When it comes to self-care, Bryce explains why it doesn’t always have to look at these huge events, like going to the spa. Self-care is anything you need it to be, even something as seemingly small as getting to shower without your kids in the bathroom with you!
How relatable is everything Bryce said? What’s your favorite way to practice self-care? Let me know in the comments on the episode page!
Quotes
“Dedicating myself and tending to my own needs as part of my daily life, and those routines that I invested myself in, allowed me to enjoy motherhood in a more consistent way. When my own needs were met, I was able to show up in a more present, happier place for my kids and for myself.” [7:20]
“Nothing changes if nothing changes. If only one person knows that there’s a problem, we need to rethink our communication approach.” [15:00]
“Always just believe that you are worth it. You are worth taking care of, even if that’s just from yourself. Mothering yourself is a valuable and worthy enterprise.” [25:11]
