The Celtics blow out the Heat 116-99 and force a Game 5 back in Boston. The Celtics found themselves down 6 after the first quarter and at halftime thanks in large part to some horrible turnovers. The Celtics gave up 5pts on 5 turnovers in the first quarter and 10pts off 8 turnovers in the second but only committed 2 turnovers in the entire half which helped the Celtics climb back and then push their lead. While the Celtics took care of the ball on the offensive end, they also took care of business on the defensive end with 8stl and 8blk while also scoring 27pts on the Heat's 16 turnovers. The Celtics had a lot of guys step up in this game but you have to give a lot of credit to Jayson Tatum for picking himself up after a bad first half and going on to score 14pts in the third and 11pts in the 4th to really ice this game.

On top of Tatum, we saw Grant really step up adding 14pts on 4-6 from 3 as well as a really good game defensively that was highlighted by a beautiful block on Butler late in the game. White played really well and kept the Celtics within reach at the beginning of this game while the Jays weren't playing well. Horford, who has been horrible from beyond the arc this series, also stepped up huge in this with 12pts 7reb 4ast on 3-6 from 3 and a team high +23. The Celtics won this game because of their incredible defense throughout but they also played to their potential on the offensive end shooting 18-45 from 3 while assisting on 28 of 43fgm. This is Celtics basketball and as great as it was to watch, there is a lot of work to be done as the Celtics still find themselves down 3-1 in the series.

The Celtics fall to the 76ers 116-115 and the series is now tied 2-2. This was a game that Jaylen Brown absolutely dominated in early but nobody else got it going. JB scored 12pts in the first 8 minutes BUT also got in foul trouble so once Joe subbed him out, the 76ers went on a 12-4 run for the remaining 4:33 and ended the first quarter with an 8pt lead. Tatum was horrible in the first half making his first bucket with about a minute to go in the second quarter. He turned it on in the second half and was excellent the rest of the way. Offensively, this was a pretty solid game for the Celtics outside of that first quarter. They scored 31pts in the 2nd and 33pts in the third but that 19pt first quarter killed the Celtics. They fell down by as many as 16 in the 2nd quarter but give them some credit because they battled back in this one taking a lead down the stretch.

A huge part of their comeback was because of our defensive intensity. Horford was a huge part of that with 3blks in that 4th quarter and Marcus Smart also came up huge on that end as well. He took a massive charge on Embiid while we were up 112-111 but was also a catalyst on the offensive end during that comeback. He hit 2 big 3s including one that put the Celtics up 102-98. The big blunder in this game was the Embiid double team by JB that left James Harden wide open for a 3 that put Philly up 116-115 with :19 left. James Harden is the last guy you want to leave wide open in this game. It took Embiid to play like an MVP and James Harden to put up 42pts to win by 1 in OT. At the end of the day, we lost. It doesn't matter by how much or by how little but here we are with a best of 3 series with 2 of those games in Boston if it makes it to a game 7.

On the night that Joel Embiid receives his MVP trophy, the Celtics walk into Philly and smack them in the mouth 114-102. This is a very impressive win where we got contributions everywhere. Tatum led the way with 27pts 10reb 5ast with some clutch baskets at the end of the game and hopefully came out of the slump he was in. JB came out aggressive again scoring 23pts along with 7reb and 5ast on just 4 3pt attempts. After being laughed at when he called himself an elite 3pt shooter, Al Horford came out and destroyed Philly with 17pts 7reb 2ast 2stl on 5-7 from beyond the arch to shut up the haters from Philly. We alsosaw great performances from our 3 headed guard monster in Smart, White and Brogdon. All of them contributed at a high level throughout this game. Marcus Smart accumulated approximately 17 Tommy Points in this game making huge hustle play after huge hustle play. Brogdon, although quiet for most of the night added 7pts in the 4th quarter and hit a huge 3 to go up 100-92 after a big Philly run late. This truly was a team effort.

Grant, while he didn't get on the scoreboard from a scoring perspective, was incredible defensively tonight forcing Embiid into a lot of tough shots. The game plan most nights when we face the 76ers is to let Embiid cook and shut down everyone else. Tonight we held Harden to 3-14 from the field, Maxey to 4-16 form the field and Harris to just 7pts on the night. It got to a point where we were in Harden's head so much that he was passing out of open floater attempts at the rim. Defensively tonight, we were fantastic. Offensively, the 3s weren't falling at the rate that we would like but the Celtics never seemed to slow down their offense and played with pace so they never got out of rhythm which has been their downfall a lot this year. This wasn't a perfect game, but it was pretty close. The Celtics now take a 2-1 lead heading into game 4. Can they make it 3-1 before heading back to Boston?

WOW. The Celtics blow out the 76ers 121-87 in Embiid's return. This was a game where Payton Pritchard out scored Jayson Tatum too. Go figure. We'll start here and be done with negatives but Tatum was bad. He got in foul trouble early and never got into a rhythm. He only played 19 minutes tonight and scored 7pts on 1-7 from the field. Outside of him, this was as beautiful as it gets. JB got us going early with 13pts in the first quarter to start his 25pt night and was the steady hand for the Celtics most of the night. Our 3 guard trio was spectacular tonight. Marcus Smart was excellent on both sides of the ball and carried a lot of the scoring load at times when the Celtics really needed a bucket and was bodying guys in the paint. Brogdon scored 23pts in this one on 7-15 from the field and 6-10 from 3. He was unstoppable. Derrick White only scored 5pts on 1-4 from the the field but turned on the jets in the 3rd quarter and added another 10. JB, White and Brogdon combined for 28pts in that 3rd quarter alone and fueled a 35-16 quarter!

Horford shot horribly but was excellent defensively in this one adding another 2blks and stl. Timelord also added 3blks in his 22min but the best big in my opinion tonight was Grant Williams. He played 29min in this one now that Embiid was back and we saw some really big lineups with Harris, Embiid and Reed and Grant feasted. He added 12pts on 4-8 from 3 along with 4ast and 1stl with an excellent defensive game as well. Last game we were crushed by the zone defense, and the high pick and roll with Harden. Mazzula completely switched up the game plan in this one and instead of running Tatum at the FT line extended to beat the zone, we had Brogdon, JB and Smart attack the heart of the defense off the dribble and it worked wonders. Defensively, instead of switching everything and leaving Horford stranded against Embiid, we fought through everything tonight and stuck with the matchups that we wanted. Offensively and defensively, this game was perfection. Time to carry this into game 3 on Friday night and take back home court advantage!

The Celtics fall to the Embiid-less 76ers 119-115 and go down 1-0 in the 2nd round. The blueprint for beating Philly has always been "Let Embiid cook and shut everyone else down" and when Embiid isn't there, it's a little hard to implement that strategy. The Celtics were all out of sorts defensively and looked really bad. Offensively, the Celtics came out of the gates firing and looking like the best offense the NBA has ever seen but that cooled off as well. The Celtics scored 38pts in the first quarter on 17-20 from the field while getting almost all of their points in the paint off of great ball and player movement. A lot of that movement stopped in the remaining 3 quarters. Tatum was sensational in this one scoring 39pts with only 5 3pt attempts. He finally became more aggressive, as did most of the team and we saw that as we outscored the 76ers 66-42 in the paint.

While the offense certainly cooled down after the first quarter, it was still pretty good throughout most of this game. The one negative from the offense was the ridiculous amount of turnovers and the timeliness of them. We gave up 20pts off our 16 turnovers including one of the biggest boneheaded turnovers in the world, after an already horrible possession, by Brogdon giving Maxey a wide open layup to go up 114-113 with :30 left. Defensively, our biggest issue was pick and roll defense once again. After getting torched that way by Trae in the first round, Harden comes out and puts on a masterclass scoring 45pts. As if that wasn't impressive enough, they also had guys like Melton who had 17pts in the first half and Maxey with 26pts in the game. There is still a lot that the Celtics need to prove on the defensive end but some of that might be fixed with simple rotation adjustments. After playing pretty well defensively, Timelord got little to no time in the 4th quarter and nothing down the stretch. Grant only played 4 minutes in this one and, even without Embiid, Philly is a big enough team where he should be getting more time especially in a game where Al's shot wasn't falling. Overall, this was a really tough game to lose without Embiid on the floor. Celtics look to bounce back Wednesday night and even up this series.
