On the 4th of July, Rob Dietrich, the Master Distiller/Master Blender for Blackened Whiskey came to 10th Mountain Whiskey and Spirit Company to do a special barrel pick with the Head Distiller Shawn Hogan, Owner Ryan Thompson, and Director of Distribution Bryan Dewar for the 10 year anniversary for 10th Mountain Whiskey!

Rob, being a Combat Veteran who served in the 10th Mountain Division and did 2 tours in Somalia, takes pride in this pick and loves what 10th Mountain Whiskey Stands for and how they support veteran nonprofits all across the country! 

Adriane and Martin took the time off to spend time with their friends and families durning the recording on Independence Day! We hope they had an amazing time and everyone listening to this had a great time as well!

We then dive into to their newest release, a 6 year Wheated bourbon using their signature heirloom corn, the Bloody Butcher.

To show respect to our armed forces on this upcoming Independence Day, we sit down with Justin and Jennifer Stiefel and Drew & Sara Kellerman. Co-founders of Heritage Distilling, who also happen to be best friends, tell us the story of how they began and why heritage is so important to them. We also discuss their recent release of Special Operations Salute US Army Special Operations Forces Howitzer Strength whiskey.

Ready for something a bit different? Bourbon with Friends turns to Rum with Friends for this episode where we sit down with Jordan Morris and Turner Wathen of Rolling Fork Rum Company. They school us whiskey drinkers on all things rum and let us know how and why they decided to start a rum company right here in the US.

We start the conversation learning how their wives brought them together, their feelings on how rum is perceived by the casual drinker, how they joined forces with Starlight Distillery out of Indiana, and some of their favorite rum pairings. We also were fortunate enough to get to try three of their rum expressions including the Heart of Gold.

Talking whiskey, science, and how to listen to the liquid to know when it's perfect, with Tripp Stimson! In this episode, we talk to Tripp Stimson, Chief Whiskey Scientist & Chief of Distillery Operations at Barrel Craft Spirits. We nerd out a bit from Tripp’s background in Biochemistry and Cell & Molecular Biology to his approach to blending and oak experimentation. 

We start out discussing Tripp’s journey going from studying biochemistry to working at Brown Foreman as an analytical laboratory technician and associate scientist. We then get his feelings on winning multiple awards including their most recent Double Gold win at the San Francisco World Spirit Competition for the 5 Year Foundation Bourbon. 

Tripp graciously shared one of their newest releases with us, the Mizanura Finish which is a blend of straight bourbons and finished in Japanese Mizanura oak. We discussed the rare (and expensive) oak’s past and how it brings unique flavors to an already unique blend.

In this episode, we talked to Mike Montgomery, the Co-Founder of Blue Run, Spirit Co. and the Vice President of Molson Coors Spirits. We talk about everything from Mike’s past in working in the Olympics, to him meeting his wonderful wife after a very awkward conversation starter! Mike’s knowledge and insight to the world of whiskey is absolutely amazing!

As we begin our conversation with Mike, we can hear the entrepreneurial spirit in his voice and how genuinely he wanted Blue Run Spirits to reach all people. Building community by interacting personally with social media and making sure handwritten notes were sent to everyone who made a purchase.

Mike was kind enough to share Blue Run Spirits’ High Rye Bourbon with us to try during the interview. While we all try to give notes and opinions on this phenomenal bourbon, we all agreed that it evoked a feeling of happiness. We also talk about the new Blue Run Spirits distillery that is set to open 2025.
