It's a big midweek episode of our Breakfast All Day podcast. Here's what we've got for you this time:
THE SOCIAL RECKONING. Aaron Sorkin's follow-up to David Fincher's searing 2010 drama "The Social Network" focuses on Facebook -- and its founder -- from a different angle. This one's more of a journalistic procedural, and we don't agree on it. Starring Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madson, Betty Gilpin, Wunmi Mosaku, Bill Burr, and Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg. In theaters this weekend.
FJORD. This thought-provoking Cannes Palme d'Or winner from Romanian writer-director Cristian Mungiu is the kind of movie you'll want to have a conversation about afterward. Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve star as a religious couple who move with their five children to a small Norwegian town and find themselves under scrutiny. In theaters this weekend.
DIGGER LIVE SPOILER CHAT. We get into all the twists we didn't want to ruin in our non-spoiler review. What's really happening in Alejándro G. Iñárritu's broad satire? Who is Tom Cruise really playing? Lots of strong opinions out there on this film, even though it tanked at the box office. Listen and share your thoughts.
See you Friday for reviews of "You Can See Everything," "Musk" and "Animals." Thanks for being here!
A ridiculously huge episode of Breakfast All Day to kick off October. Here's what we reviewed this week:
DIGGER. Tom Cruise teams up with Alejandro G. Iñárritu for a massive, cacophonous climate change parable. We couldn't stand it, but we were also in awe of its cinematography and production design. Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller and Jesse Plemons co-star. In theaters. And once you've seen the movie, come to our LIVE spoiler chat at our YouTube channel on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Noon Pacific.
VERITY. Slick, twisty trash for suburban moms, or anyone who enjoys a glass of wine with a movie. (That's a compliment, by the way.) Based on the novel by Colleen Hoover ("It Ends With Us"). Starring Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway, Josh Hartnett and a monstrous midcentury-modern house that's essentially a character in itself. In theaters.
HEART OF THE BEAST. Last week was so busy that we couldn't get to this Brad Pitt adventure movie, but we liked it so much that we wanted to catch up with it. Pitt stars as a retired special forces officer who fights to survive in the Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash. But the real star is his trusty German shepherd and best friend, the magnificent Odin. In theaters.
EAST OF EDEN (1955). With Zoe Kazan's miniseries treatment of the classic John Steinbeck novel streaming now on Netflix. we wanted to revisit the original film that her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed. This is the movie that put James Dean on the map, and you can see all that beautiful, tormented potential on display. Catch our "East of Eden" recaps here on our Patreon.
MOVIE NEWS LIVE! Always a lot to discuss, including early "Digger" reactions and box office, the latest in the Paramount/Warner Bros. merger, new movies from Curry Barker and Zach Cregger, and a "Fast & Furious" series in the works at Paramount+. Join us on Fridays at Noon Pacific.

We are in the thick of fall movie season now, and you're here with us. Here's what we reviewed on this week's episode of our Breakfast All Day podcast.
PRIMETIME. Robert Pattinson IS Chris Hansen, host of the NBC series "To Catch a Predator" in the early aughts. The film is lurid and Pattinson gives an enjoyably garish performance. In theaters.
YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER. Mahershala Ali stars as a devoutly Muslim hitman trying to find milk for his infant daughter in a dangerous section of Houston. A true original. In limited release now and going wider in upcoming weeks.
YOU HAD TO BE THERE. A fascinating documentary about the 1972 Toronto production of "Godspell." Name a Canadian comedian whose work you like, and they probably got their start here. In theaters.
MOVIE NEWS LIVE! Lots to discuss as always, including early reactions to "Digger," trailers for "Musk," "Clayface" and "You Can See Everything," and the state of the Paramount/Warner Bros. merger. Join us on Fridays at Noon Pacific.

What a weird week! But we're here for all of it, for you, at Breakfast All Day. Here's what we reviewed on our latest episode.
RESIDENT EVIL (2026). A "Resident Evil" movie that's actually good? Zach Cregger has done the impossible. You don't need to have seen any of the previous films, or played the video game, to have a blast here. This horror movie is insane and hilarious. You'll scream, you'll squirm. Austin Abrams stars as a medical courier having a very bad day. In theaters.
THE UPRISING. We're catching up with this action epic from writer-director Paul Greengrass, which came out last week. Andrew Garfield stars as a man known only as the Ploughman, who leads the peasants' revolt of 1381 against England's King Richard II. Co-starring Thomasin McKenzie, Jamie Bell and Cosmo Jarvis. In theaters.
THE HISTORY OF CONCRETE. If you enjoyed the HBO series "How To With John Wilson," you'll love this feature debut, which feels like an extended version of his low-key comedy in all the best ways. Wilson does indeed explore the history of concrete in his beloved New York City, but ties in numerous other ideas, themes and oddball characters in the process. We loved it. In theaters now in New York, opens wider in upcoming weeks. Find out here when it's playing near you.
MOVIE NEWS LIVE! We went extra long on a number of topics including Ed Sheeran, the Elon Musk documentary, the Toronto International Film Festival, Duncan Sheik and Bob Mackie. Join us on Fridays at Noon Pacific.

Three pocast episodes ... in one week? In this economy?

One more midweek pop-in because there's so much to discuss now that September has arrived. Here's what we reviewed on the latest episode of our Breakfast All Day podcast.
PRACTICAL MAGIC 2. It's the sequel to "Practical Magic." But can Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman still cast a spell on us, 28 years later? This time, they travel to England to try and end the family's centuries-old curse. Joey King, Lee Pace, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest co-star. In theaters.
PRACTICAL MAGIC (1998). Alonso had never seen the original movie, and Christy only saw it when it came out, so this was a good opportunity to revisit it. Griffin Dunne's film was not exactly a giant hit with critics or audiences back then, but it's gained a cult following over time, which we try to understand. Streaming and rentable.
HOPE. This crazy, overlong Korean horror movie from writer-director Na Hong-jin played at the Cannes Film Festival and is now out there for you to enjoy, as well. Something is rampaging through a small harbor town near the North Korean border, and a group of citizens and police officers try and stop it. We liked it for a while. In theaters.

We're back from our end-of-summer break with a quick little visit for you. Plenty to come now that September is here, but for now, here's what we discussed on Tuesday:
ONSLAUGHT. Adria Arjona is a veteran who must protect her daughter and her trailer park from super soldiers who are marauding across the desert. Alonso says this is one of the worst movies of the year. From director Adam Wingard ("The Guest"), co-starring Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall ad Reginald VelJohnson. In theaters.
IT ENDS LIVE SPOILER CHAT. As soon as we saw "It Ends," we knew we needed to do a separate spoiler conversation about "It Ends." And now that Alex Ullom's movie has been out there for a few weeks, we thought it was more than time. What's really happening in that car? We try to figure it out together.
New podcast episodes coming later this week, so stick with us as we head into the fall movie season. Thanks for being here!
