The Phillies didn’t get a superstar player before Tuesday’s trade deadline, but did any team?
No, not really. But the Phillies believe they addressed their areas of weakness. Less than an hour
before the deadline, the Phils acquired White Sox left-hander Tanner Banks for infield prospect William Bergolla. Banks will replace left-hander Gregory Soto, who was traded to the Orioles for Double-A right-hander Seth Johnson and High-A righty Moisés Chace. The trades capped a bullpen reconstruction that featured two significant additions and two significant subtractions over the past five days. Saturday, the Phillies got
closer Carlos Estévez from the Angels for pitching prospects George Klassen and Samuel Aldegheri. Friday, they got Orioles outfielder Austin Hays on Friday for right-hander Seranthony Domínguez and outfielder Cristian Pache. In: Estévez and Banks Out: Soto and Domínguez Ruben, Jim and Todd break down the trades, then dig into some of the things that haven’t been going well for the Phillies lately ... which is almost everything.
