Using non-traditional methods and creative tactics, Dave spent twenty years as a social and political entrepreneur leaving a trail of non-profit start-ups, campaign victories, viral videos, new magazines, and public space interventions in his path. An urbanist, community organizer, author and trainer, he inspires us to invert the traditional pyramid of hierarchy by creating meaningful opportunities to engage our employees, our members, our students. His thesis is simple: We’re stronger and smarter when we’re all involved. Transforming top-down leadership into bottom-up collaboration is the true challenge of the 21st century. He talks about the state of our democracy in Canada and what we need to do to fix it.

Brian interviews David Perry. David is the president and CEO of the Canadian Global Affairs Institute, an independent, non-partisan international policy think tank, and my research focuses on Canadian defense spending and procurement. Brian interviews Snjezana Pruginic. Snjezana is a seasoned Somatic Trauma Therapist, Transformative Justice Worker, and the visionary behind Circle Point Wellness—a socially minded business committed to cultivating work environments in which people feel good so they can do good. Snjezana talks about her traditions around the solstice and the strawberry full moon, writing down what doesn’t serve you and burning it and setting intentions for the next cycle. She convenes with others outside and acknowledges our relationship with nature, the sun and the moon and others.

Brian interviews David Roddis. David is the founder of SlowPainful.com, where, since 2014, he has offered unabashedly progressive, outrageously funny political commentary and personal reflections. He is known locally as erstwhile author, feckless artist, starer into space while smoking, and public homosexual. David Roddis talks about Pride Month and his new book “Sorry Looking for NOW LOL”. David is one of the few gay men of his generation to have survived the AIDS crisis, who was around during the bathhouse raids. He has literally been around for it all and is one of the rare voices we have left influenced by such times (often unshared) gone by.

Brian interviews Jeff Thompson. Jeff is VP Asset Management Agellen. Jeff and I discuss various aspects of the real estate market, including the impact of the housing crisis, the potential of industrial and real estate investments, and the changing landscape of retail and industrial sectors. We also explore the benefits of real estate investment trusts (REITs) and the need for immediate action and strong leadership to address the housing crisis. Brian interviews Alex Dalziel. Alex is a Senior Fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, an Ottawa-based public policy think tank. He worked for over 20 years in Canada’s national security community before joining MLI. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in history from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, and has also studied in Finland and Germany. He writes and speaks on national security and Arctic geopolitics. He asks: what do China and Russia want from the Arctic? What’s driving them together? What does this mean for Canada?

Brian interviews Paul Richards. Paul is Managing Director of GUR Build, a modern manufacturing housing company in the UK and he talks about modern construction techniques. He argues that the way we build houses today is pretty much the same as we did 100 years ago and we need a concentrated effort to streamline zoning, building codes and building techniques. He discusses some of the innovations he is most excited about. He closes by saying that the housing crisis we are in and the desperate need for more affordable housing needs a commitment and leadership like Winston Churchill provided in WW2. He tells us that Churchill is the right inspiration because he was a bricklayer.
