Episode 77 of the Save The Date Wedding Podcast. None of us engaged and married folk are planning to get divorced… unless you’re running some sort of visa scam…good luck to you but realistically a bunch of us probably will. I’m sure you don’t want to hear this now…you probably want me to be talking about and posting things about bunting and floral hair crowns (gorgeous!) but tough titties… we are going there. In Part 2 of this special Save the Date Wedding Podcast interview, my guests, therapist Susan Pease Gadoua and journalist Vicki Larson has literally written the book on marriage, It’s called The New “I Do”, reshaping marriage for skeptics, realists and rebels and it is a GREAT read! I answer lovely listener questions about… choosing your wedding day makeup artist. Do you go for hair and makeup artists or separate people? What’s the most cost-effective option? Finding wedding buddies…people to share your wedding planning journey with, when your friends and family are far away! And one of my favorite wedding Q&A conundrums so far…what to do when a close friend books their wedding on a date that is on your wedding day (or frightfully close). If half of all new cars bought in each year broke down, there would be uproar. People would go mental! But when people suggest that maybe every single marriage doesn’t look like the next and isn’t meant to last until death, we’re faced with a negative nelly response. People don’t want to hear that things may not work out and I get that but with statistics like 10% of first marriages won’t make it to their five year anniversary, I think we are obliged to delve deeper and look at why this is happening and what we can do to avoid it! This week's podcast guests are the co-authors of The New I Do, therapist Susan Pease Gadoua and journalist Vicki Larson take a groundbreaking look at the modern shape of marriage to help readers (and listeners) open their minds to marrying more consciously and creatively. Offering actual models of less-traditional marriages, the book covers unique options for couples interested in forging their own paths. The New I Do acts as a guide to thinking outside the marital box and the framework Be on your way to wedding Planning Zen with the Bridechilla Guides! As I am sure we’re all well aware, the average wedding costs $30,000 these days. That’s a larger operating budget than many small businesses begin with. Not to be the voice of doom and gloom but sometimes things that are completely out of your hands can go wrong, vendors don’t come through with the goods (literally) and you can be left out of pocket. Today podcast is a must-listen if you are planning to spend any money (I’m guessing that is ALL OF YOU) on your wedding, giving you helpful tips from Wedding Lawyer Christie Asselin from www.yourweddinglawyer.com, about how to prevent problems and cover yourself if they do. Save The Date Wedding Podcast Q&A Thursday is my favorite time of the week because I get to share your stories and questions and hopefully help you out of a conundrum or two along the way! This episode I look at cultural appropriation at weddings…eg when a person takes something that has cultural significance from another culture for their own use and in the process lacks understanding and respect of the significance behind that thing has….you get me? Look, it’s basically (and this is very un-PC)… white people taking everyone else’s ideas but removing the meaning behind these activities. Looking good without the meaning. Boo to that. Parents, we wouldn't be here without them (fact) but I'm not going to pretend that everyone's relationships with their parents is perfect. Some people don't have any relationship with their parents, whilst some people consider their parents to be their best friends. Weddings have a, some would say, nasty habit of stirring up underlying issues and placing challenges in our paths when it comes to parental relationships and expectations. The funny thing is, when writing this, I wasn't even thinking about in-laws. Wedding Gods, help us! Here's thing, wedding planning and families don't always mix. I was inspired to record this episode by two podcast listeners who contacted me with parental-based questions. As I often am wonderful communications, I was touched by the openness and honesty that these two ladies gifted me in the communication. I really do feel like you are my friends all over the world and I love that you write to me in that very way. Be on your way to wedding Planning Zen with the Bridechilla Guides! Flowers are here today, dead tomorrow. Granted, they look pretty and smell nice but they don’t need to be everywhere, being clutched by everyone. Before you get angry at me for killing your floral fun, in today's episode (a Q&A episode following on from the last podcast) I bring you some smart ways to have to create your wedding flowers on a budget. I’m by no means suggesting you cut flowers completely, just make the ones you do use count. Be on your way to wedding Planning Zen with the Bridechilla Guides! RSVPs are a contentious issue. Waiting for those little cards to be sent back can sometimes feel like time has stopped. Why aren’t people replying quickly? Do they not want to come to your amazing wedding? When do you start sending bitchy texts to people asking them to hurry up and respond? Weddings can bring out the bitchy side in everyone and I don't say that lightly. I mean what other scenario combines, spending lots of money, alcohol, reunited family members and extreme high heels? Relationships can be stirred up, I'm sure you're finding that everyone has an opinion about EVERYTHING and it's often hard to decide who to listen to...(me!). Today on the podcast I focus on the RSVP…how to get people to respond quicker and make sure only the people that YOU invite attend! Be on your way to wedding Planning Zen with the Bridechilla Guides!
