Did you know, for example, that pizza joints get lots of bizarre requests, and one of the most common is to draw something inside the box? For some inexplicable reason, in most cases, it has to be a dino. If delivery employees don't have too many orders, they usually fulfill such weirdo requests.

  • How Cool a Wireless Charger Can Become in the Future
When the battery runs out, it’s nerve-racking, but unfortunately, it happens. The more functions our devices provide, the more power they need, and they’re hungrier than hungry hippos at this point! That’s why charging technology is all the rage now, and the new big thing is wireless charging.
Even though we’re just now seeing this technology take off, the basics of how it works were discovered not long after we started to understand what electricity is. Near the end of the 19th century, engineering mastermind Nikola Tesla showed that two powerful magnetic fields can slightly transfer energy between their sources when they interfere with each other. This trick found its use more than a hundred years later!

  • How SIM Cards Actually Work
What SIM does stand for? It means subscriber identity module or subscriber identification module. The first SIM card in the world was developed in 1991 by the German company Giesecke & Devrient. They sold 300 SIM cards to Radiolinja, a Finnish wireless network operator. In 1992, they sold the first GSM mobile phone with a SIM card; it was a Nokia 1101. Today, it’s hard to find a person who’s never used a SIM card – over 7 billion gadgets around the world use them to make calls, send SMS and surf the web.

  • How Touchscreen Works In Simple Words
How do touchscreens work anyway? Johnson was the first to create touchscreen technology, these displays hadn't gained popularity till the 1970s, when the resistive touchscreen was accidentally invented. Further developing on that new technology, scientists at the University of Toronto invented the first multi-touch display in the 1980s. As for the very first touchscreen cell phones, they came out a little later in the 90s.

  • How Bluetooth Works
The idea of what we call “Bluetooth” today was first introduced back in 1989. Dr. Nils Rydbeck, who was the chief technology officer at Ericsson Mobile, and inventor Dr. Johan Ullman had this revolutionary idea to develop a pair of wireless headsets. They brought Dr. Jaap Haartsen on to the project. A mere 5 years later, he’d be the engineer who made the breakthrough and came out with the first protocol.
It took a few more years to perfect the technology. But finally, in 1999, they presented their first hands-free headset to the world at the Comdex computer exposition and trade show in Las Vegas.

  • How GPS Works Today
Once upon a time, your ancestors used to look at the night sky to determine their location. Then we used a Thomas Guide, remember those? Today, it only takes one magical technology to get driving directions, send your picnic spot to a lost friend, or track how far you’ve gone during a workout. That technology is called GPS, and you’re about to find out the secret behind it.
Did you know that GPS was actually a military invention? The highest quality signals were only used for military purposes until May 2000, when it became available to all civilians for free. Now GPS is literally everywhere, and you can now even purchase GPS insoles to keep track of your kids or relatives with Alzheimer’s disease.

  • That's How Wi-Fi Works
Remember the days when your internet was connected through the phone line? Oh, that sound of dial-up! We’ve come a long way since then, and chances are that you’re watching this video through Wi-Fi right now. So how did we get here anyway?
In the 1980s, personal computers had begun to enter our lives for good. But at that time, they were connected to the internet through the infamous Ethernet cables. Maybe scientists were getting tired of tripping over all those cables? They decided they wanted to start sending data using radio signals. However, those early attempts were unsuccessful. What scientists didn’t know at the time was that the problem had been solved a decade before PCs were even invented!
