We all know the story of RMS Titanic. But do you know stories of objects that survived the voyage? Here's one of them. In July 2019, a very special item was sold at an auction in Rhode Island. Special, in that it was used over a hundred years ago to save a group of Titanic passengers! But what could it be? One of the lifeboats? A piece of the rescue ship?

No, it was a mere cane. A black walking stick with an amber-colored tip and built-in light. How exactly did a cane help save lives? In the spring of 1912, 55-year-old Ella White was traveling around Europe. Different things can happen while you’re out on an adventure, things like injuring your foot. At least, this is what happened to White at some point during her travels abroad. She decided to get a fancy model with a battery-illuminated crown, a decision that would save her life later...

The megalodon was one of the largest creatures that's ever lived on our planet. These sharks' length could probably reach 60 to 80 ft. And their maximum weight was more than 50 tons. That's the combined weight of 10 African elephants! The modern sperm whale grows as long as the megalodon was or even longer. But the prehistoric shark used to be heavier. The great white shark's maximum length is just 20 feet. The largest specimens grow to be two and a half tons. Which means the megalodon was more than 20 times heavier and 3 times longer than the great white!

The Meg had terrifying serrated teeth - they're still found all over the world in impressive quantities. The largest of them were three times longer than the great white shark's teeth. And if you placed this tooth on your palm, it would cover it whole. Ancient people believed the megalodon’s teeth were huge serpents' tongues. They even called these teeth "tongue stones." It seems there can't be an animal more terrifying than the ginormous shark. But you might be in for a surprise. In 2017, an oil and gas industry worker filmed a video and sent it to researcher Deborah Hatswell. It was recorded at a depth of about 2,700 ft during an investigation conducted by a remote-operated vehicle. At one point during the examination, the submarine came across the remains measuring almost 98 ft in length. The operator of the submarine was startled by the unexpected discovery.
