Have you ever thought of what it will be like to live in a dome for, say, a year? Sci-fi writers often write stories about groups of people that live in an isolated space and produce everything they need for a normal life all by themselves. We decided to try to imagine what life under a dome would be like, too. So if you're a fan of unusual what-if stories as we are, you will probably like this video. Okay, imagine that after 5 years of construction, your town’s dome was finally completed last night. It cost over $150 billion, but it was a smart investment in a self-sustaining future.

Inspired by the dreams of yesteryear. There were ancient buildings with massive domes that stood for millennia. Then sports stadiums adopted this strongest of architectural shapes – “superdomes” they called them. Indoor sports resorts under the protection of a dome, like Tropical Islands in Germany. Giant biodomes and greenhouses such as the Eden Project in the UK. The next step was only natural – cover it all, the whole town!

In the world's deepest gold mines, people work at a depth of over 13,000 ft. The deepest oil well on the planet is located in the Russian Far East, it goes more than 40,000 feet down. It's fifteen Burj Khalifa towers put on top of each other. One of the world's deepest and most famous artificial holes is the Kola Superdeep Borehole. Its depth is also over 40,000 feet! If you dropped a coin down the shaft, it would be falling for 50 seconds before it reached the bottom. A mere 9 inches across, this well was created for scientific purposes. People wanted to drill through the Earth's crust and see what lay below.

But what if, by some miracle, you managed to drill a hole all the way through Earth? You've got through 8,000 miles of molten magma and solid rock. You've withstood the temperatures of almost 11,000˚F and extreme pressure - more than 300 million times more than at the surface of the planet. The well is wide enough for an adult to pass without having to squeeze through. It's also perfectly straight. The hole's walls are incredibly strong and won't collapse or melt. And then, while standing on the well's edge, admiring your handiwork, you slip and fall into the gaping abyss!

Six million years ago, Argentavis magnificens was one of the most terrifying creatures in the sky. This creature was 12 feet long and had a wingspan around 23 feet. The bird was about the size of a biplane but weighed much less: around 160 pounds or an adult man's average weight. Thanks to its powerful, large beak, Argentavis magnificens could swallow a rabbit whole. Now the largest bird is the Andean Condor. They reach 33 pounds, about the weight of a small dog, and a wingspan of 10 feet, which is more than the height of any player in the NBA. Fortunately, these birds are vultures – they feed on carrion and don't attack live animals.

But what if we lived in a world where all birds were the size of planes? Imagine you're somewhere in Africa. You're riding in a jeep in a hot valley with friends. The vehicle passes a group of lions, hyenas, and giraffes, and then you stop near some elephants. Suddenly, the elephants panic, raise their trunks, and scream. In the sky, you see a strange plane. The elephants run away. The plane is approaching, and you realize that it's not a plane at all, but a massive bird of prey. It's bigger than a business jet but smaller than a Boeing...

Millions of years ago, there were seas and oceans where deserts are today. What if it all comes back? Water instead of sand, where deserts used to be. Life on the planet would change completely. Sand can act like a liquid if a strong enough airflow makes it rise from below. The air reduces friction between sand particles, making more space. The particles begin to move freely as if they are in a liquid. If a huge vent suddenly opened under the Earth’s crust, blowing air from beneath, then perhaps the entire landscape would begin to sink like being in quicksand.

Such monuments as the Egyptian pyramids or the Sphinx would sink under the ground. Huge cities built on sand would disappear. The Sahara Desert would resemble one bubbling cauldron. Camel caravans would simply fall down. But don't worry, the animals wouldn’t get hurt. Liquid sand is filled with oxygen, so they’d be able to swim in it. But what would happen if all of the sand turned into the water instead of just a liquid version of itself? This is a hypothetical question but let's try to answer it.

When you think of a giant animal, you probably imagine an elephant or a giraffe, but they aren't the biggest creatures to have wandered our planet.
