So then, 3 wins from 4 league games, 6th in the table (Europa League!!!), Women’s team top on GD, U23s and U18s win and flying high. So I said to myself, what a wonderful world!

RG was in West London for Albion’s first ever visit to the new Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday. On the cast list were Brighton Rock pals Alison, Dunc, Charlie, Courtney and John, plus there were an array of cameos including Bees supporting father and son Don and Marty (Don actually remembers Bees’ last stint in the top flight 74 years ago!) and Alison’s Dad Bill and brother Richard. There’s also a drunken Sheebo!!….and lots of singing from the ground, including the new Tony Bloom song *coughs awkwardly. (Oh and if you are wondering who was laughing about it in so disturbingly creepy a manner it was Dunc!!!)

This week RG went down the pub (surprise, surprise….in fact the only real shock was the change of location!) to meet up with his new chum Billy Grant, a long time Brentford FC fan and podcaster of several years’ standing, to get his backstory, find out about the advent of Beesotted - The Bees fans’ long standing vehicle of many guises in the world of fan media and to delight in describing his beloved club’s rise and rise from the lower divisions to the Prem, via a lockdown letdown!

RG’s good friend Ade The Gooner was handily placed, living just round the corner from the chosen pub, so he also joined in to receive some gentle needle from Billy about THAT season opener.

This is the first (and longer) episode of a two-part special with Billy in the run up to Albion’s debut visit to Brentford’s ‘New Griffin Park’ stadium this weekend.

In this episode, Peter and RG reflect on the Everton defeat and the fact that it is “another transfer window, another failure to sign a striker (oven ready!)“.

Yes the transfer window has been SLAMMED shut, as aggressively as always (apparently!) and the club HAVE made some signings…just not that elusive first team ready striker we’ve craved these past few months. The chaps discuss how painfully exposed that leaves us in one very vital area of the pitch, in terms of squad depth and they peruse the rest of the significant transfer activity ‘this window’ to see who will be visiting The Amex this season.

Anyway, with Guendouzi and Luiz long gone, we do now have as a consolation the player with easily the biggest hair in the PL. So welcome Marc “Cuckoo” Cucurella. We look forward to admiring your skills and your abundant ‘lid’ later this month. A warm welcome also to fellow newbie Abdallah Sima. Good luck at Stoke and see you next season!!!
