What would you do if Jesus dropped by your house? Would you quickly clean up? Would you change your clothes? Would you cook for Him? Or maybe order in? Would you invite your neighbors? Would you turn off the TV? The Computer? Your phone? Would you get up and go to the other room? What if He brought His 12 closest friends with Him?  In our passage today, we see Martha welcoming Jesus into her home and attempting to be the “hostess with the most-est.” But it all comes down to “One Necessary Thing.”

In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, you just can’t escape the application part. Yes, it is easy to find yourself in one or more of the characters of the story. But Jesus’ application is, “Go and do likewise.” We must get involved in the lives of others, for the glory of God.

Sometimes people ask questions because they genuinely seek answers. But sometimes people ask questions as a means of making some sort of statement. In Luke 10, a lawyer does just that to Jesus – he asks Jesus a question just wanting to justify himself. Sorry, but it doesn’t work that way. In answer, Jesus tells the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

Preachers must preach. And they must do so when it is convenient and when it is not, when it is comfortable and when it is not. No matter what goes his way, he is to persevere in the calling with which he has been called.

Preachers have a specific call from God. The good soldier that Paul mentioned in 2 Timothy 2 is one who wants to please the one who enlisted him. That is just as true when we get to chapter 4 and Paul talks about the Preacher. His greatest desire ought to be to please the One who called Him, the One who enlisted him.

There is great power in going on a Short-Term Mission Trip, especially when you get to go with your church family. There are at least 8 great benefits found in Luke 10. And any one is good enough reason to go.

Justice must flow freely for the structure of American society to thrive. And we can learn a lot about how God deals with a nation marked by injustice by how He dealt with Israel. This “proverb” that God shares through His prophet Amos sheds great light on that relationship.

Christians around the nation are celebrating recent decisions handed down by the Supreme Court. That has not always been the case. But it should be. There is a direct correlation between the spiritual and the civil life of the nation. Indeed, blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
