The Fresno City Council is considering placing a half-cent general sales tax on the November ballot to replace funding that could be lost when Measure C expires in 2027. Supporters say it could generate about $65 million annually for roads, public safety, and city services. Critics note the tax would go into the General Fund, meaning future councils could spend the money on priorities other than roads.

A Huntington Beach man is facing a felony vehicular manslaughter charge after prosecutors say he allowed 20-year-old surfer Kolby Aipa to “car surf” on an e-bike while holding onto his pickup truck at speeds exceeding 50 mph. Aipa lost control and suffered fatal injuries. Now the debate: is prosecuting the driver making the community safer, or is this a tragic accident that already carries a lifetime consequence?

EXCLUSIVE: Assemblywoman Ali Macedo joined Broeske & Musson to discuss the Trump administration's decision to withhold $867.5 million in California Medicaid payments pending additional documentation on what federal officials describe as high-risk claims. State leaders call the move politically motivated, while HHS says it's part of a broader crackdown on fraud, waste, and abuse.

At today's White House briefing, Karoline Leavitt pointed to New Jersey's admission that about 6,600 non-citizens were mistakenly placed on voter rolls through a software error, with fewer than 400 casting ballots. This sparked a bigger question for Broeske & Musson: if New Jersey found problems, could similar voter-roll issues exist in California, and are state officials looking hard enough?

A new Fox News poll shows voters increasingly frustrated with the economy and hungry for major change heading into the midterms. Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt says the administration remains focused on economic growth and tax relief, while Newt Gingrich argues Democrats’ embrace of the DSA agenda could spell political trouble for the party in November.

At a contentious Capitol Hill hearing Tuesday, House Republicans accused the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History of promoting a politically biased view of America and focusing on “oppressors and the oppressed.” Director Dr. Anthea Hartig pushed back rejecting claims of “extreme political activism.” Republican lawmakers, including Rep. Brandon Gill, also challenged Hartig over museum exhibits.

New Jersey's voter-registration controversy is drawing attention in California after officials revealed a software error registered about 6,600 noncitizens to vote, with fewer than 400 casting ballots. The vendor involved, IDEMIA, also provides major DMV technology services in California. Why isn't California curious about this?

EXCLUSIVE: Assemblyman David Tangipa describes Sacramento as a "Zombie Horde" while discussing California's decision to change the Voter ID ballot title for November. The original title for the ballot was: "ESTABLISHES ADDITIONAL VOTER IDENTIFICATION AND CITIZENSHIP VERIFICATION REQUIREMENTS. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT." (Sept. 19, 2025). On July 21st, the title was changed to: "PROHIBITS CITIZENS FROM VOTING UNLESS THEY PRESENT GOVERNMENT-ISSUED IDENTIFICATION. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT." Tangipa argues the new wording unfairly reframes the measure.

Police say the technology helps solve homicides, shootings, and vehicle crimes, while critics argue it threatens privacy and expands government surveillance.
