Rob Wil­son aka Fresh IE (@fresh_kmf) sat down with @caidjones & @_josuedavi_ for a look into the jour­ney of the Win­nipeg based rap artist. Fresh has been a part of this country’s music scene for 25+ years. As a dancer in the young Win­nipeg Hip Hop scene sto­ries are still told about him. He’s rolled with Swollen Mem­bers before they were The group Swollen Mem­bers and watched his­to­ry unfold in Van­cou­ver as well. This inter­view talks about some of his roots, tran­si­tion from street things to find­ing his faith and releas­ing music as a Chris­t­ian rap artist. This is a look into his jour­ney. You may not know but he was a past instruc­tor with 393 and has always sup­port­ed the move­ments of the youth that attend our pro­grams. Tonight we speak with local rap­cat extra­or­di­naire, the birth­day boy, Mal­colm Jay in advance of his week­end show at the Good Will! The event will not only mark the debut of his EP ​“Rest­less”, but will serve as his birth­day par­ty, fea­tur­ing DJ sets from Kilu­san and Zuki. It will also have live per­for­mances by upcom­ing hip hop prodi­gy’s the OB and the Odd Pedes­tri­ans and Nathaniel.

On the eve of the announce­ment of the 2019 Polaris Prize long list, we replay our inter­views with two artists that had a big stake in the 2018 prize!

First, we speak with for­mer Win­nipeg­ger, now Mon­tréal pro­duc­er BUF­FLO who served as a pro­duc­er on the 2018 Polaris win­ner, Jere­my Dutcher’s Wolas­to­qiyik Lintuwakonawa.

We also speak with 2018 short­lis­ters Snot­ty Nose Rez Kids, who are in town to play Old Mar­ket Square for this year’s Jazz Fes­ti­val. Their new record Trapline should be a shoe-in for this year’s long list of nominees.

In hon­or of the sāk­i­hi­wē fes­ti­val, which cel­e­brates its 10thedi­tion this sum­mer with three days of music and cul­ture fea­tur­ing Indi­ge­­nous-iden­ti­­fy­ing per­form­ers from many nations, we speak with two of the fes­ti­val’s per­form­ers — Anishi­naabe MC/​Singer/​Songwriter Leonard Sum­n­er and Anishi­naabe DJ and Pro­duc­er Boogey The Beat!

The fes­ti­val runs June 14 to 16 on Treaty One Ter­ri­to­ry, in the city of Win­nipeg and fea­tures more than 20 artists from ter­ri­to­ries across Tur­tle Island, includ­ing many local artists.
