- December corn down $.15 at $6.83

- November soybeans up $.15 at $13.85

- December soybean oil up 1.83 cents at 66.84 cents/lb

- December soybean meal up $4.80 at $411.00/short ton

- December wheat down $.65 at $8.61

- July wheat down $.47 at $8.83

Weekly highlights:

- Ethanol production increased for the second straight week- up 13.4 million gallons last week. However, gasoline demand continues to struggle. Gasoline use was down 12% from the same week last year.

- The big surprise in the October USDA Supply and Demand estimates was the cut to US soybean yield down to 49.8 bushels/acre. The 0.7 bushel/acre cut countered analysts’ anticipation of a small increase in the national yield.

- Export sales continue at a rather mundane pace. The only one at all strong last week for this time of year was soybean meal, but even then current commitments are below the seasonal pace needed by about 5%.

- Open interest futures and options positions of Chicago wheat were flat again last week, Chicago corn and soybean future and option open interest positions were both up 3%. Managed money futures and options positions increased for feed grains (expanding on net longs for corn but shrinking the net short for wheat) while managed money accounts decreased their net long for Chicago soybeans.

- US ag export inspections were mixed. Reported values were down for all the feed grains week over week- wheat exports fell below all expectations. However, soybean inspections were very strong coming in above all pre-report estimates at 69 million bushel- a 10 months high.

- Soybean crush volumes reported by the National Oilseed Processors report were disappointing for the month of September but confirmed strong demand for soybean oil.

- Harvest continues to role as many parts of the corn belt saw more than 6 days of suitable fieldwork days last week. Corn harvest is 45% complete, 63% complete for soybeans, and 37% complete for cotton. All ahead of the 3-year average.

- Winter wheat plantings jumped 14% last week to 69% planted.

Iowa farmer Dan Keitzer chairs the Iowa Corn Industrial Usage and U.S. Production Committee which he says oversees programs that involve corn grind like ethanol and crop production.

He tells Brownfield the future of biofuels is bright and Iowa Corn is advocating for initiatives to increase blending at the state and federal level.

Logan’s favorite part of high school sports is getting to play a sport he loves with his best friends. Agriculture has played a huge role in Logan’s life with growing up on a third-generation beef farm. Farm life has taught him many lessons that he could use outside of the farm. Logan is involved in football, baseball, wrestling, FFA, and FCA. He also participates at the Richland County dairy breakfast, Lions club, Richland County Fair, and Ithaca Fair. After graduation, Logan would like to continue athletics in college and have his own business one day.

Olivia Santos was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the court/field. Her favorite part about high school sports is the competition, it motivates her to work hard and be the best she can be. Agriculture is a part of Olivia’s everyday life with her living on a farm. It has given her the chance to learn from her dad, travel to shows, and meet new friends that share a common passion. Olivia is involved in volleyball, basketball, track, choir, theater, student council, leadership council, FFA, 4-H, and she volunteers at a local homeless shelter. After graduation, Olivia would like to play college sports while studying in either veterinary science, healthcare, government agency, or music-related.

Nick Kappenman was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the court. His favorite part about high school sports is the opportunity to grow in the sport and be able to build relationships with teammates on and off the court. Agriculture and growing up on a farm have helped Nick understand the value of hard work and seeing something grow from start to finish. Nick is involved in volleyball, National Honor Society, Student Council, FFA, Best Buddies, Student Ambassadors, 4-H, high school rodeo, Dakota State University volleyball, and St. Thomas youth group. After graduation, Nick would like to attend The University of Texas at Austin to study sports management and sports analytics and hopes to be involved with the college volleyball team.

Jacob Wiechart was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the field. His favorite part of high school sports is being able to compete with others and meeting players from different schools. To Jacob, agriculture means experiencing different opportunities and friendships and learning hard work and dedication. Jacob is involved in baseball, FFA, and 4-H, and participates in community service with those groups. After graduation, Jacob plans to attend college and hopes to further his life in the agricultural field.

Maverick Weber was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his efforts on and off the field. His favorite part about high school sports is the competitiveness and family aspect of his team. To Maverick, agriculture provides ample opportunities to learn. He has been able to learn work ethic and improve problem solving skills from agriculture and apply them to his everyday life. Maverick is involved in football, trapshooting, FFA, NHS, Little Crow Ski Team, and We Care. After graduation, Maverick plans to attend MSU Mankato for a degree in civil engineering.

Wyatt Luhmann was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the field/court/green. His favorite part about high school sports is the overall feeling of being on the field or court and getting to play in front of the community. Wyatt has been involved with agriculture his whole life and hopes to always be involved in it. He believes farming is not something people should take for granted as farmers put food on everyone’s tables. Wyatt is involved in soccer, basketball, golf, 4-H, and his church’s youth group. After graduation, Wyatt hopes to continue a career with farm equipment. He is currently in an internship that he loves where he gets to work on farm equipment and would like to stay with that company or go somewhere similar.

Tucker Rohrig was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the field. His favorite part about high school sports is how your team becomes your family. No matter what happens there will always be people that stand by you. When Tucker thinks about agriculture the first thing to come to mind is the future. The first line of the FFA Creed states, "I believe in the future of agriculture," and he realizes how important agriculture is for not only feeding the world now but also being able to sustain our future population. Tucker is involved in football, track, FFA, FCA, Salt and Pepper Co-ed Dance Team, 4-H, and youth group. Once Tucker graduates, he plans to attend Iowa State University and major in animal nutrition or genetics. Tucker also plans on growing and advancing his family's show pig operation.

Her favorite part about high school sports is the people as well as the community you create with teammates and fans. To Amelia, agriculture is all about fun and hard work. Growing up on a farm she always enjoyed driving tractors with her grandpa and spending time with family. Amelia is involved in FFA, yearbook, cross country, basketball, track, church youth group, and volunteers for multiple community activities. Once Amelia graduates, she plans to attend college for early childhood education.
