Weekly highlights:
- Ethanol production rebounded some last week -up 10 million gallons after falling to the lowest output since the winter storm that hit Texas early in 2021.
- Export sales of US feed grains and oilseeds came down from the relatively strong week the week prior. Corn, soybeans, soybean meal, soybean oil, grain sorghum, and wheat were all down week over week. Corn fell below all pre-report trade expectations.
- Open interest futures and options positions of Chicago wheat were flat on the week, corn future and option positions were up 2% (flat over two weeks) while soybean position were down 2% week over week (also flat over two weeks). Managed money futures and options positions increased for feed grains due to Ukraine/Russia news- up 711 contracts for Chicago wheat, and up 5,874 net contracts for Chicago corn. Chicago soybean managed money positions fell 17,343- making that a decrease of 34,639 positions over three weeks.
- Private production estimates of US corn and soybean crops are pointing to a reversal of trends over the past couple months with soybean production shrinking and corn production increasing.
